Role: Financial Controller
Division: Weir Minerals
Location: Mississauga, ON (onsite)
Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Regional Controller NA, the Financial Controller works collaboratively with the FP&A team to ensure that all deliverables of the Finance team are completed with high quality in a timely manner. This role works closely with Canadian Operations as well as WBS (Weir Business Solutions).
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure appropriate and effective controls are in place and complete all control testing on a rolling schedule.
- Lead the internal and external audit for Weir Minerals.
- Responsible for all statutory reporting requirements.
- Review completed work by WBS and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
- Ensure the Finance team works in a productive environment with high levels of communication and transparency.
- Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen.
- Actively seek feedback from internal and external stakeholders, implement process improvements.
- Ensure that the goals set out on the Finance lean scorecard are monitored and specific action is taken to improve performance.
- Participate in the preparation and review of quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets as well as the related analyses and reports.
- Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of financial statements, reports and performance estimates for the Minerals Canada business unit within established deadlines, ensuring all checklists are updated and utilized.
- Complete all Group and Divisional monthly close and reporting requirements including monthly flash, MD report and Cognos/TM1 update.
- Interpret financial reports for management comparing actual versus projected results and explaining variances.
- Prepare financial and economic analysis projects and interpret results as required.
- Undertake special analytical studies such as the identification of trends or the evaluation of current control systems.
- Ensure all account reconciliations are completed and review key accounts, ensuring analysis is detailed and actions taken as needed prior to end of the month.
- Ensure all tax related matters are completed, utilizing third party experts as needed.
- Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
- Other duties as required.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor in Business Administration or Commerce and minimum of eight years of related, progressive experience.
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) / Certified General Accountant (CGA) / Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Experience in cost and general accounting in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills and a significant interest and ability to understand and question what is behind the numbers.
- Excellent computer skills along with literacy with Microsoft Excel and Word software are required.
- Strong knowledge of SAP is a must.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Self-motivated, organized, and attention to detail is a must.
- Analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to exercise good judgement, tact, and confidentiality in all matters.
