Job summary

Stratford Honda is seeking a results‑driven Dealership Controller to lead financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting for the UpAuto dealership group. The role ensures accurate statements and regulatory compliance while guiding strategic decisions.

Qualifications include a university accounting degree and dealership accounting experience; CA/CPA is preferred. You will manage audits, cash flow and internal controls, partnering with department heads to maximize profitability.

Drive financial excellence and steer profitability at Stratford Honda as our next Dealership Controller

Are you detail oriented with a background in Automotive Dealership Accounting? As a Controller at Stratford Honda, you will assume a pivotal role in steering the financial health and performance of UpAuto, our automotive dealership group. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. Your strategic insights and meticulous financial management will play a crucial part in driving profitability and maintaining the financial integrity of our dealership group.

Job Duties:
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to optimize profitability and ensure long-term financial stability
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for the dealership group
  • Prepare the detailed monthly financial statements, in keeping with the dealer’s instructions and the manufacturer’s time frame and format; ensure that all manufacturer accounts are up-to-date and accurate – specifically those concerning warranty claims, discounts, interest rate protection and industry advertising
  • Coordinate and manage financial audits, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Analyze financial performance and variances, providing insights and recommendations to senior management for decision-making
  • Monitor the supervision of accounts receivable and sales/purchases of vehicle documentation
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks
  • Collaborate with department heads to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and maximize revenue opportunities
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and financing activities to support operational needs and strategic initiatives
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Successful Candidates Possess:
  • University degree in the field of Accounting, and/or comparable dealership accounting experience (a must)
  • Designation preferred: CA, CPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the overall operation of a retail automotive dealership's accounting procedures
  • User knowledge of Dealership DMS: PBS (preferred)
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills - must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Strong intellect with a well-developed business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks for self and others and follow them through to completion
  • Demonstrated recognition that customer satisfaction is the prime concern of the dealership
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate others
  • An understanding and a willingness to allow others to learn through experience
  • Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate activities of all dealership departments
  • Proven and demonstrated history of successful departmental and personnel management
  • Thorough understanding of expense control re: inventory, floor plan, and personnel
  • Organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment to achieve common goals

Position Status Disclosure:

  • The expected compensation range for this role is $85,000- $105,000 /year (The range may vary based on experience and qualifications)

This compensation encompasses base salary and vacation pay as required under Ontario Regulation 476/24 made under the Employment Standards Act, 2000.
