Job summary

S. & T. Group is seeking a Controller to lead financial and accounting functions for the company and its affiliates. The role supervises staff, manages AR and payroll, and oversees cash, budgeting, and insurance programs to support growth and fiscal health.

Candidates should have CPA designation or equivalent, a strong background in construction finance, and proficiency with financial systems. Ontario-based experience is a plus and a collaborative leadership style is essential.

Qualifications

• CPA designation is an asset.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is an asset.
• Jonas Software familiarity is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of construction financial processes is an asset.
• Proficiency with financial systems is expected.
• In-depth understanding of Canadian tax regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to provide hands-on support to ensure smooth accounting operations.
• Competent in conflict and crisis management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise accounting staff.
• Oversee timely preparation of accounts receivable progress billings per contract terms.
• Review accounts receivable aging and assist collections.
• Oversee payments to vendors and subcontractors; ensure lien waivers are collected.
• Monitor daily cash balances to meet requirements.
• Review weekly payroll for union and non-union employees; assist with monthly reports.
• Perform special assignments from ownership and finance leadership.
• Create budgets with ownership and manage budgets for fiscal health.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements.
• Review and procure business and health insurance programs.
• Maintain insurance/risk protection program.
• Collaborate with VP of Finance to drive growth and organizational development.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervision of accounting staff members.
• Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of accounts receivable progress billings based upon specific contract terms.
• Review accounts receivable, aging reports and assist with direct reports for collections.
• Supervise the payment process to vendors and subcontractors and confirm lien waivers are properly collected.
• Monitor daily cash balances to ensure requirements are met.
• Review and monitor the preparation of the weekly payroll for union and non-union employees including the timely submission of monthly reports.
• Perform special assignments as directed by the ownership, VP of Finance and President.
• Create budgets with ownership and manage budgets to ensure fiscal health and responsibility.
• Preparation and review of monthly financial statements.
• Responsible for review and procurement of the business and health insurance programs.
• Maintenance of insurance/risk protection program.
• Work with VP of Finance to assist in driving growth, organizational development and learning all aspects of the financial department.
