Job summary

Kanto Living Inc. designs, manufactures, and supports a wide range of consumer electronics. We are seeking a Controller to own full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and controls within our Finance/Admin team in Langley, BC, with hybrid work options.

The role leads payroll, AP/AR, HR, and internal controls, ensuring accurate monthly reporting and compliance across jurisdictions. CPA designation is preferred; five years of management experience in a consumer goods environment is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting and CPA designation or near completion.
• Five years of management experience in a consumer goods/inventory-heavy environment.
• Strong leadership skills with HR oversight preferred.
• Proficiency with SAP B1 and MS Office; familiarity with client portals is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle accounting ensuring timely and accurate financial information.
• Lead and develop a small team spanning payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and HR.
• Prepare monthly reporting package and bank compliance documentation.
• Conduct channel and margin analysis, manage tax remittances across jurisdictions.
• Maintain ERP/partner portals, drive cash management and credit control.
• Ensure regulatory, insurance, and statutory compliance domestically and internationally.

We are currently looking for a Controller to join our Finance/Admin team on a full-time basis. You will take on a variety of accounting, HR, and office administration responsibilities. This is a hands-on leadership role with ownership of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and the controls that keep the business running accurately and on time. Your strong analytical thinking, leadership, and attention to detail will help ensure the overall efficiency and integrity of our finance and administrative operations.

Key Responsibilities: Accounting & Finance

• Full-cycle accounting - oversight of all routine and non-routine transactions, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial information in a high-pace, high-growth company.
• Lead and develop a small team spanning payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and human resources functions.
• Preparation and analysis of the monthly reporting package and bank compliance documentation.
• Channel and margin analysis, applying a strong understanding of vendor chargebacks - including promotional and markdown allowances, co-op/marketing funds, freight and shortage deductions, compliance/routing penalties, and other typical retail chargebacks.
• Statutory and tax remittances, including the reconciliation of duties and other multi-jurisdictional local tax requirements.
• Managing internal and external accounting systems (ERP and partner portals) while driving cash management, AP, AR, and credit control.
• Ensuring legal, regulatory, and insurance compliance domestically and internationally, working with internal and external resources on regional compliance.
• Assistance in the preparation of year-end working papers for external accountants.
• Work closely with the operations team on inventory and sales processing, as well as other cross-functional integration matters.
• Assess, implement, and ensure compliance of accounting and administrative controls.
• Assist Executives and Managers with various corporate and finance projects.

Qualifications & Skills

• Degree in Accounting.
• CPA designation or near completion
• Five years' management experience in a consumer goods and/or inventory-heavy environment.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Previous experience overseeing the HR function preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements, as applicable.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft applications, and numerous client portals; SAP B1 would be an asset.
• Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies.
• Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Standard office setting - Langley, BC.
• Access to personal transportation is highly recommended as public transportation routes are unavailable near the work location.
• Hybrid work options may be available with a minimum number of in-office days required each week, subject to change at management discretion.
