Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

Manages all contract activity for a division, a major segment, or for a major project either before the contract receives final approval or during the life of the contract. Interfaces with the client's Contracts Director to report the status of the program’s commercial and contract wellbeing.

What You’ll Be Doing

  1. Manage a team of commercial, procurement, and contract staff, including subconsultants, to analyze, evaluate, and manage project finances, contracts, as well as ensuring commercial performance against established schedule, budgets, and other critical project data.
  2. Provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to the project team for resolving project commercial and contract-related issues, ensuring the latest information and resources are available.
  3. Oversee the commercial performance of assigned project areas to ensure compliance with project procedures and objectives, sharing best practices and improvement techniques with staff, and reporting to senior management.
  4. Interface with the client team as required, attend meetings, and provide project updates, reports, and presentations.
  5. Assist with key contract negotiations or modifications, leveraging broad experience to negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
  6. Establish and lead the implementation of strategic commercial project plans.
  7. Support project planning activities such as risk assessment, bid/no-bid analysis, and business plan development.
  8. Identify risks and contractual terms not conforming to project policies and procedures.
  9. Manage the successful commercial execution of projects to meet goals, including developing work plans and budgets, reviewing proposals, and determining timeframes and financial objectives.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Law, Procurement, Finance, or related field from an accredited university.
  • Chartered status from recognized bodies like RICS, CIOB, or similar.
  • Over 20 years of experience, with at least 15 years in large international construction firms.
  • Experience managing large projects or programs, preferably in the entertainment sector.
  • Proven experience in managing prime contracts, international consultants, and contractors.
  • Claims management knowledge, including SCL Delay and Disruption Protocol and arbitration/dispute resolution.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships, interpret client needs, and proactively manage project processes.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and management skills.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Preparing project status reports, including cost projections and schedules.
  • Managing scope changes and securing change orders.
  • Reviewing project progress and contract status, providing guidance for improvements.
  • Advising on claims and contractual notices.
  • Managing contract close-out procedures.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management from an accredited university, with chartered status.
  • At least 25 years’ experience, including 10-15 years in commercial management of highway projects.
  • Experience with budgeting, cost planning, and use of project management software.
