Job summary

Suncor Energy seeks a strategic Contracts Advisor to lead material and/or service contracting. You will negotiate and manage the lifecycle of contracts, partnering with business teams and suppliers to deliver cost, risk, and efficiency improvements.

This is an office‑based role in Calgary, with a focus on cost optimization and supplier performance. Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of experience, strong negotiation and analytical skills, and proficiency with SAP/Ariba.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain.
  • 5–10 years of related professional experience and/or a mix of commercial and technical work.
  • Experience in contracting using SAP/Ariba and spend analytics tools.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and cost‑driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Identify cost‑reduction opportunities through market analysis and supplier collaboration.
  • Apply data‑driven insights to optimize specifications, service models and commercial structures.
  • Lead sourcing‑to‑contract events to achieve favorable commercial outcomes.
  • Design innovative commercial models and negotiation strategies.
  • Manage supplier performance focusing on cost control, productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee contract planning, strategy, sourcing, negotiation, and claims/warranty activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align sourcing strategies with business priorities.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills.**Responsibilities:*** Identify cost‐reduction opportunities through market analysis, supplier collaboration, demand management and monitoring of category spend* Apply data‐driven insights to challenge specifications, service delivery models, and commercial structures to achieve sustainable cost savings* Lead sourcing‐to‐contract events, ensuring commercial outcomes balance cost efficiency, performance, and risk mitigation* Design innovative commercial models and negotiation strategies that drive competitive advantage and cost improvement* Manage supplier performance with emphasis on cost control, productivity, and continuous improvement and identify innovation and efficiency opportunities* Manage project contract planning, contract strategy development, sourcing and negotiation activities through to contract formation and approval and claims / warranty management activities* Partner with diverse internal stakeholders to define business requirements and translate them into sourcing strategies that maximize cost efficiency and align with business priorities**Location and other Key details:*** This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.* Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
