Overview:

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for direct implementation of CovenantHouse’s philosophy, mission statement and policies as they pertain toresidential care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the directmanagement of the daily shift and the direct supervision of approximately 5 FT and 8 PT staff.
  • Co-coordinating and monitoringtraining of new team members.
  • Overseeing the safety, security,contents and any emergency situations within the entire building.
  • Ensuring any threats to the safetyof our youth are properly managed by staff.
  • Conducting interviews of potentialemployees, evaluating them on observation shifts and participating in theselection process.
  • Ensuring that staff adhere toCovenant House’s policies and procedures.
  • Managing and monitoring theirteam’s work concerning intakes, assessments and discharges.
  • Ensuring case management issuesare appropriately addressed.
  • Overseeing youth discharges and admissionsto the shelter.
  • Making recommendations forappropriate case action plans.
  • Managing petty cash float, prestocards and taxi chits.
  • Ensuring they and their staff areengaged with the youth and role model, the Trauma Informed Approach to care.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification, Experience:

  • College or university degree ordiploma in child and youth work or equivalent.
  • Minimum four year’s experience ina shelter or residential setting.
  • Minimum 3 year’s experience in asupervisory role
  • Knowledge of adolescentdevelopmental theory and specific issues related to street youth.
  • First Aid, CPR and basic computerskills an asset.
  • Ability to identify, assess andintervene differentially with youth in crisis.
  • Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
