Job summary

Weir in Port Hope, ON is seeking a Contract Operator to perform grinding operations and quality verification on a 3-shift rotation. This onsite role is a 6-month contract to hire with an increased hourly wage and shift premiums.

The successful candidate will handle hoist-assisted material movement, maintain accurate shift records, and uphold Weir's safety culture. A high school diploma or GED, attention to detail, and strong teamwork are required.

• Fill shift pitch boards with current pitch details and reasons for misses.
• Maintain a clean, organized workstation for the next shift.

What you'll do

• Grinding Operations: Operate hand held grinders to safely remove excess metal from inside and outside castings, ensuring precision and quality in every piece.
• Quality Verification: Verify fit accuracy by correctly using gaging tools with different thickness feeler gages to maintain product standards.
• Material Handling: Utilize hoists to manipulate castings into proper positions for fitting and gaging, supporting efficient workflow.
• Documentation: Keep accurate records by filling out shift pitch boards with current pitch details and reasons for any missed pitches, ensuring clear communication between shifts.
• Workstation Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workstation for the next shift/operator to promote safety and efficiency.
• Physical Requirements: Occasionally move parts weighing up to 50 pounds by hand gaging, demonstrating physical capability and care.

What you'll bring

Compensation

Starting rate will be $28.08/hr.
