Job summary

Weir ESCO in Port Hope, Ontario is seeking a Manufacturing Manager to lead foundry operations, drive safety culture and optimize production performance.

Reporting to the operations leadership, you will manage salaried and hourly teams, implement Lean tools, and collaborate with maintenance, quality, engineering and supply chain to meet production goals while safeguarding a zero-harm environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or foundry environments.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, quality systems, and operational excellence.
• Proven ability to lead change and drive performance in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

• Safety leadership to promote zero-harm culture and enforce SHE standards.
• Lead foundry operations including molding, melting, core making, or finishing to meet targets.
• Supervise salaried and hourly staff, set performance expectations, and coach for development.
• Drive Lean, Kaizen and Root Cause Analysis to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to meet production needs.
• Analyze production data and plan actions to improve cost-effectiveness and throughput.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Support employee relations, investigations, and grievance processes.

What you’ll do

• Safety Leadership: Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to zero harm by promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all SHE standards, and leading by example to maintain a world‑class safety environment.
• Operational Management: Lead and manage foundry manufacturing operations including molding, melting, core making, or finishing. Oversee daily production activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement targets.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, coach, and develop salaried leaders and hourly unionized employees, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive operational excellence through Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis, and other problem‑solving methodologies. Identify and implement initiatives to improve labor efficiencies, reduce waste, and enhance production processes.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure production requirements are met and capital improvement projects are supported effectively.
• Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyze production data to identify operational challenges and develop actionable plans to improve efficiencies and cost-effectiveness.
• Workforce Planning: Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and resource allocation to support changing production demands while maintaining compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Employee Relations: Foster positive employee relations, support engagement initiatives, and participate in labor relations activities including investigations, discipline, and grievance management.
• Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world‑class safety culture.

What you’ll bring

• Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or foundry environments, preferably with unionized workforce management.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, quality systems, and operational excellence principles.
• Proven ability to lead change, execute initiatives with urgency, and foster a high-performance, team-oriented culture.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/manufacturing systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Post-secondary education in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business, or related discipline.
• Training and experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience managing departmental budgets, capital projects, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and employment/labour legislation.

Compensation: Ranges from CAD $115,000 to $125,000 and bonus eligible.
