Job summary

Weir in Port Hope, Ontario, is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to lead day-to-day foundry operations across rotating shifts (6a-2p, 2p-10p, 10p-6a). You will oversee safety, production, and continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor, with 60% floor time and 40% office tasks.

The role demands 5+ years of supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing, strong Lean/CI knowledge, and effective leadership and communication skills to drive a high‑performing team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing such as foundry, construction, mining, or heavy industrial sectors
• Experience working in a unionized workforce environment
• Strong knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills with a proactive, engaged approach

What you’ll do

• Operational Leadership: Supervise day-to-day foundry operations ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant production processes across multiple shifts. You will be hands‑on, spending approximately 60% of your time on the floor and 40% in the office.
• Team Development: Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders and production employees to build a high‑performing, engaged workforce. Foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning to maintain strong employee relations.
• Production Management: Plan, coordinate, and monitor labor and resources to meet production schedules and operational targets. Daily tasks include conducting shift‑start safety talks, delegating work, and sending end‑of‑shift reports outlining safety, production, and equipment status.
• Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean manufacturing principles and structured problem‑solving to identify root causes, improve processes, and sustain operational improvements. Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve operational challenges.
• Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world‑class safety culture. Maintain vigilance on safety and PPE compliance throughout shifts.

What you’ll bring

Must‑haves

• 5+ years of supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing environments such as foundry, construction, mining, or heavy industrial sectors
• Proven experience working in a unionized workforce environment
• Strong knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills with a proactive, engaged approach

Nice‑to‑haves

• Post‑secondary education in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field
• Green Belt Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement training
• Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle for production tracking and reporting
• Previous foundry operations experience
