Job summary

Vale Base Metals seeks a Contract Management Supervisor in Sudbury, Ontario. This permanent onsite role leads a team handling contracts for goods, services, engineering and construction to support operations and projects.

You will drive governance, mentor staff, and partner with stakeholders to optimize contracting approaches, manage risk, and ensure compliant, value-driven outcomes.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Contract Management Supervisor to join our Contract Management team in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent onsite position, working dayshifts, Monday to Friday.

As a Contract Management Supervisor, you will lead a team managing contracts for goods, services, engineering, and construction activities that support operations and projects. You will provide strategic contract oversight, mentor team members, collaborate with key business functions, and serve as a contract management subject matter expert responsible for governance and best practices.

In this position you will:

  • Supervise a team of Strategic Contract Coordinators and provide guidance on contract management across goods, services, engineering, and construction portfolios supporting operations and projects.
  • Oversee major contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and claims management.
  • Work with stakeholders to optimize contracting approaches that support operational reliability, cost efficiency, and long-term business needs.
  • Communicate and enforce governance frameworks, policies, and performance measures to drive contract compliance, risk mitigation, and value generation.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors, resolving high stakes issues and supporting effective, long term partnerships
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying operational and process inefficiencies and implementing best practices and performance enhancing initiatives across the contract portfolio
  • Work collaboratively with procurement to develop and prioritize the Ontario demand plan for their respective contract portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with all contract and procurement-related matters in line with corporate policies, legal and regulatory requirements, insurance, finance, tax, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
  • Ensure vendors and operations execute work in a manner that meets the terms of the contract regarding safety, productivity, schedule, quality, and deliverables.
  • Support the teams by providing subject matter expertise and guidance for preventing and mitigating contractor and service provider claims.
About You
Education:
  • College diploma or Undergraduate degree in a related field such as business or law is preferred.
  • Generic Supervisor Common Core (770141) is an asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of related experience is required.
  • Previous experience in mining or an industrial background is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in projects is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of contracts, contract language, and commercial contract terms.
  • Ability to simplify complex terms for stakeholders and establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office Products
Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding of business systems including Procurement, Project Management, Finance, Safety, and Operations and Maintenance.
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
  • Understanding of contract law. Knowledge of entire contract management cycles, including administration and resolution of cost claims.
  • Understanding of the full project life cycle, including the ability to understand how contract strategy, procurement planning, scope definition, change management, cost control, scheduling, risk management, safety requirements, stakeholder engagement, and vendor performance contribute to successful project delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and demonstrated skills in time management and in conflict management.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment with competing demands and priorities.
