Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial or mechanical engineering or a related field.
• 5–7 years leading business transformation in manufacturing.
• Lean Six Sigma cert/training highly preferred.
• Experience in change management and cultural transformation.
• Strong data-driven problem solving and KPI tracking.
• Proficient with PowerApps, SharePoint, and dashboard tools.
• Ability to manage multiple CI projects with competing priorities.

What You’ll Do

The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist will report directly to the Business Improvement Manager. The CI Specialist is responsible for driving a culture of continuous improvement within our Calgary MDF business. By identifying, analyzing, and executing operational enhancements in the plant, you will collaborate with Leadership and Operations teams to lead and deliver Lean process improvement projects from conception to completion. This role is accountable for delivering measurable improvements that reduce expenses, optimize processes, and enhance operational performance.

This is a highly visible role, accountable for driving measurable improvements that reduce expenses and optimize plant processes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for manufacturing a great product, providing outstanding customer service (internally and externally), leading/developing teams, and ambition to grow into management roles.

Primary responsibilities of the role include:

• Drive improvements in manufacturing safety, quality, service, cost, and delivery lead times through targeted continuous improvement and process engineering initiatives.
• Analyze processes using plant KPIs, identify inefficiencies, and implement engineering solutions to optimize workflows, enhance capability, and reduce waste.
• Develop and execute Lean strategies that translate business goals into actionable, results-driven projects.
• Create, manage, and implement CI plans and savings budgets to improve efficiency, productivity, and alignment with business objectives.
• Support the implementation of new machinery, automation, and advanced technologies to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Develop, track, and report KPIs and other performance metrics to support problem-solving, validate changes, and drive data-based decisions.
• Identify both short- and long-term improvement opportunities to strengthen operational performance and achieve strategic objectives.
• Plan and execute Kaizen events and other CI initiatives focused on waste reduction, process optimization, and performance improvement.
• Foster employee engagement by building a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Teach, mentor, and coach employees on Lean/CI tools, methodologies, and best practices to build sustainable organizational capabilities.
• Share learnings, best practices, and process enhancements across manufacturing facilities (up to 15% travel).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
• 5-7 years of leading business transformation.
• Advanced proficiency in Lean Six Sigma methodologies, supported by formal training from a recognized Lean/Six Sigma academy, is highly preferred.
• Manage Continuous Improvement program and implement strategies to achieve Operational Excellence.
• Experience is a fast-paced manufacturing process.
• Strong curiosity and a proactive approach to understanding manufacturing processes, operational performance, and process improvement opportunities.
• Extensive experience in change management and leading cultural transformations to drive sustainable organizational improvements.
• Self-motivated and capable of working effectively with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality results.
• Expertise in managing portfolios with multiple projects, tasks, and competing priorities while maintaining focus on organizational goals.
• Proven ability to analyze, design, and optimize manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure scalability.
• Demonstrated success in planning, facilitating, and leading various Kaizen events that result in measurable, impactful improvements.
• Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives that optimize workflows, enhance productivity, and deliver quantifiable results.
• Strong experience in designing and achieving KPIs such as OEE, throughput, availability, quality metrics, and inventory turns.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to develop and manage solutions using PowerApps and SharePoint, build applications to support production teams, and design dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay range for this role is set at $110,000−$115,000. It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location.
