Construction Worker - Term

Department: Housing & Infrastructure

Location: Tr’ondek Hwech’in Offices – Dawson, YT

Posting Date: May 7, 2025

Standard Hours Bi-Weekly: 75

Start Date: Immediately

End Date: One (1) year from start date

Salary: Level 4 Step 1 ($2,548.50 bi-weekly)

Closing Date: May 20, 2025 at 4:00 pm (YST)

Position Overview

Reporting to the Construction Supervisor, this position is responsible for carrying out construction, repairs, renovations, and upgrades to TH infrastructure and heritage sites, primarily related to carpentry. The incumbent will assist in ensuring safety, security, and functionality of capital projects, adhering to building codes, conducting preventative maintenance, risk assessments, and managing inventories and supplies. The role requires utilizing various trade skills, providing progress updates, and occasionally working on special projects or community events.

Additional Information

An eligibility list may be established from this competition, valid for up to 12 months, to fill future vacancies within the department and classification.

Essential Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 10-12 (or GED) with 3+ years of experience in repairs, renovations, and maintenance. Equivalent education, knowledge, skills, and experience may be considered.
  • Apprenticeship enrollment is an asset.
  • Training or experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical trades.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Understanding of hazards and safe work practices in building maintenance.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of national and Yukon Building Codes, or willingness to learn.
Conditions of Employment
  • Criminal Records Check.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
  • Commitment to OH&S training, including First Aid, WHMIS, TDG, Fall Restraint, Confined Spaces, hazard assessments, and safe operating procedures.
  • TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
