Job summary

Liberty Mutual Canada is seeking a Senior Underwriting Officer, Construction to lead and own the underwriting strategy for the Construction vertical. You will guide appetite, guidelines, and tools, while driving performance across property, GL, auto and wrap-up exposures.

You will partner with The Head of Construction and NA offices to implement strategy, mentor underwriters, and influence senior stakeholders through insightful analyses and governance.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive commercial underwriting experience with construction focus.
• Deep knowledge of builders risk, wrap-up liability, GC and contractor exposures.
• Expertise in underwriting complex contractor accounts across multi-line placements.
• Proven ability to translate market intel and data into clear guidelines and appetite.
• Strong tooling and framework development to improve decision quality.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own the Canada Construction underwriting strategy and appetite.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance on complex, large, multi-line accounts.
• Build and maintain Construction-related guidelines, wordings and referral processes.
• Lead development of underwriting tools: appetite, pricing standards, risk assessment.
• Monitor portfolio performance: loss ratios, price adequacy, and quality indicators.
• Collaborate with Head of Construction to ensure field alignment with strategy.
• Coach and mentor Construction underwriters across geographies.
• Work with NA underwriting community to leverage enterprise capabilities.
• Partner with Actuarial, Claims, Risk Control/Engineering, and Ops to drive performance.
• Represent Canada in industry forums and broker meetings.
