Job Purpose
The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) assists in the implementation of the BA Blacktop Health & Safety Management System.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the corporate Health & Safety Management System.
- Develop site-specific plans, orientations, safe work practices, and procedures.
- Administer the Injury Management Program for injured workers with medical restrictions.
- Conduct and review accident/incident investigations.
- Conduct and review site-specific inspections and audits.
- Develop and distribute Weekly Safety Meeting Topics, Near Miss Reviews, and Red Alerts.
- Conduct new worker and site-specific orientations.
- Administer the New Hire Program.
- Schedule, organize, or conduct safety training, including Vinci Safety Week, annual Safety Days, or other safety initiatives.
- Schedule and document minutes for monthly JOSH committee meetings.
- Maintain safety supply inventory.
- Conduct annual COR (Certificate of Recognition) internal safety audits.
- Maintain annual prequalification (e.g., ISNetworld, Complyworks, YVR).
- Maintain safety statistics monthly/annually.
- Liaise with internal personnel (HSE Manager, Superintendents, Foremen, Workers).
- Liaise with external groups (WorkSafeBC, BCCSA, Contractors).
- Stay informed on WorkSafeBC Regulations, Canada Labour Code, National Safety Code, NFPA.
- Evaluate internal audits, create reports, and monitor implementation of findings.
- Guide and facilitate external audits, monitor their findings' implementation.
- Provide reports on WorkSafeBC ERA Rates / Annual Claims Cost Summaries.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Construction Safety Officer Certification (CSO).
- Two years of experience in implementing Health & Safety programs in construction or relevant fields.
- Excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiating, and facilitation skills.
- High physical fitness and ability to work under pressure.
- Leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent oral presentation and organizational skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Certifications such as CHSC, NHSA, NCSO, CSO, COR Internal Auditor, First Aid, Respirator Fit Testing.
Additional Details
Pay: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
Location: Fraser Valley Area
