Job summary

Horizon Recruitment Inc. is seeking a Project Accountant / Project Cost Controller to manage financial reporting for a portfolio of construction projects.

You will consolidate budgets, actuals, and forecasts, analyze variances, and apply earned value management to project performance. The role collaborates with Finance, Project Management, Scheduling, and Contracts teams to ensure accurate forecasts and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in project accounting, financial analysis, or construction finance.
• Strong budgets, forecasts, actual costs, and variance analysis.
• Experience in large, project-based environments (construction preferred).
• Ability to interpret contract terms, funding models, and payments.
• Experience extracting financial data from ERP for reporting.
• Proficient in Excel and financial reporting.
• Collaborates with project managers, schedulers, contracts teams, and senior leaders.
• Knowledge of earned value management.
• Attention to detail across multiple data sources.
• Primavera P6 experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage financial reporting for construction projects, including actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
• Analyze project performance and explain key cost and forecast variances.
• Apply earned value management to track project progress and financials.
• Pull and analyze project cost information from ERP and contract docs.
• Monitor vendor costs, commitments, accruals, and spending.
• Prepare regular cash flow forecasts for inflows and outflows.
• Review contract terms to understand funding and payment schedules.
• Coordinate with schedulers and contracts teams to link financials with progress.
• Gather information from stakeholders for accurate project reporting.
• Track productivity and other performance measures affecting costs.
• Provide updates to the Project Director, Finance Director, and executives.
• Identify cost risks, reporting gaps, and opportunities to improve controls.
