Job summary

Contract Construction Planner

Pay Rate: $77.63/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 52 weeks

Location: Lloydminster, SK

Raise is currently hiring a Contract Construction Planner on behalf of our client. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Canadian Downstream Site Projects, this role plays a critical part in supporting construction planning and project execution for downstream site projects. Our Client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Contract Construction Planner is responsible for supporting detailed construction planning and execution activities across downstream site projects. This position develops execution plans, builds detailed step-out schedules in Primavera P6, coordinates multidisciplinary activities, and works closely with project, engineering, procurement, scheduling, and contractor teams to ensure construction work is properly planned and ready for execution.

The successful candidate will bring strong construction planning experience, knowledge of project execution practices, and experience working with scheduling tools such as Primavera P6. A background as a Red Seal journeyperson, technical diploma holder, or process operations professional is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Construction Planning & Execution

• Review approved project scope and confirm all required documentation is complete and ready for execution.
• Develop detailed construction execution plans, including P&ID markups, inspection drawings/tabs, plot plan updates, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Create detailed step-out plans in Primavera P6 to support safe, efficient, and coordinated execution of construction activities.
• Integrate multidisciplinary execution activities into logical sequences to develop detailed construction and execution plans.
• Participate in contractor validation reviews, field walks, schedule quality reviews, and schedule optimization sessions.
• Lead scope review and job plan index reviews to ensure work is properly defined and ready for execution.
• Facilitate scope challenge sessions and identify opportunities to improve project execution strategies.
• Lead detailed schedule reviews with project and construction stakeholders.

Scheduling & Project Controls

• Work closely with schedulers to support labor leveling across individual operating units.
• Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules in P6.
• Review schedule logic, sequencing, dependencies, and execution requirements.
• Support schedule quality reviews and optimization activities.
• Assist in identifying potential schedule constraints, resource requirements, and execution risks.
• Monitor project progress and performance against established execution plans.
• Support the Lead Planner with schedule-related activities and contractor coordination.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate with Project, Procurement, Engineering, Construction, and contractor teams to ensure materials and work packages are ready for execution.
• Support responses to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs) as designated by the Lead Planner.
• Review and support Added Work Requests (AWRs) submitted during the planning phase.
• Participate in contractor selection activities and support the development of contract strategies.
• Review Requests for Proposal (RFPs) during contractor selection phases.
• Facilitate communication between project teams and contractors to resolve planning and execution issues.

Materials, Cost & Continuous Improvement

• Coordinate material readiness and ensure approved work packages are available before construction begins.
• Maintain BOMs and material master information.
• Monitor project progress, costs, and contractor performance.
• Support the management and incorporation of added work into project execution plans.
• Identify opportunities to improve construction planning, scheduling, and execution processes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to project planning and site execution practices.
• Ensure planning activities align with established project execution standards, procedures, and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Understanding of construction sequencing, job planning, materials readiness, and field execution.
• Experience working with project, engineering, procurement, construction, and contractor teams.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, site‑based project environment.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Skills

• Experience supporting downstream, oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, or industrial projects.
• Experience with CMMS/GWAS or comparable project/work management systems.
• Strong Primavera P6 scheduling and schedule optimization experience.
• Experience with labor leveling and resource planning.
• Experience reviewing contractor schedules and work packages.
• Experience with P&IDs, inspection drawings, plot plans, BOMs, and material masters.
• Experience participating in field walks, contractor validation reviews, and scope challenge sessions.
• Experience supporting contractor procurement, RFP reviews, and contract strategy development.
• Knowledge of project controls, cost tracking, progress measurement, and change management.
