GFT- Gannett Fleming TranSystems

is seeking a Part-Time Construction Inspector to join our Construction and Building Group in Bracebridge/ Barrie areas. This role follows an on-site work model.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Construction Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in managing transportation construction projects across Toronto, ON. This is an exciting opportunity for career growth, involving complex problem solving, process enhancement, and leading small projects to ensure successful delivery. You will collaborate with peers, senior staff, and stakeholders to address challenges and foster professional development.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for:
  • Establishing a safety-first culture for all construction projects.
  • Inspecting work materials and methods to ensure contract requirements are met safely and with quality.
  • Maintaining a daily inspection diary documenting construction activity, environmental events, and progress.
  • Issuing contract deficiency reports and following up on corrective actions.
  • Observing and reporting safety, security, and operational infractions.
  • Assisting in resolving construction issues and ensuring contract compliance.
  • Tracking change notices for the completion of as-constructed drawings.
  • Assisting in project closeout, including certificates of substantial completion and as-builts.
  • Coordinating and conducting inspections for contract compliance.
  • Reviewing contractor work quality and reporting to clients.
  • Ensuring technical compliance with plans and specifications.
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T).
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction engineering, including field work and contract administration in Toronto, ON/GTA.
  • Experience with Class 1 Railway and right-of-way work is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
What we prefer you bring:
  • Supervisory experience in transit, commercial, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience resolving claims and knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of transit laws and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside regular hours.
