Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a qualified engineer to design safety, control and monitoring computer systems for nuclear projects in Canada. You will evaluate I&C products, define architectures, and drive V&V processes across software development life cycles.

The role requires an honours degree in computer or electrical engineering, PE Ontario eligibility, and 3–5 years in computer controls. Strong written and oral communication are essential for collaboration with diverse teams.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in computer or electrical engineering from a recognized university.
• Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• 3–5 years of experience in a computer controls environment preferred.
• Familiarity with software design/development based on documented industry standards is an asset.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills; able to work in a multidisciplinary team.

• Deliver technical presentations and manage schedule and budget.

Overview

Your role

• Perform conceptual and preliminary design of safety, control and monitoring computer systems to define the system requirements, computer architecture, product/tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability.
• Evaluate digital I&C system products and establish processes and procedures for their use in computer software design, development and verification & validation (V&V).
• Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design descriptions, coding, verification, testing, and documentation.
• Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/toolsets/environments including, but not limited to: IEC 61131-3 languages, C, C++, Varian/SSCI-890/PDP11 Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Visual Studio, LabView, XML, Photon.
• Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for the production of safety critical software.
• Update and/or prepare Computers Engineering design documents including software requirements specifications, software design descriptions, and software manuals.
• Assist in preparation of guides and procedures following international standards for work practices related to quality software for safety applications in the nuclear industry.
• Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions within the company.
• Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively.
• Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals.

About you

• Relevant Honours degree in computer or electrical engineering from a university of recognized standing.
• Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
• Minimum 3 -5 years of experience in a computer controls environment is preferred but may be waived.
• Familiarity or experience with software design/development based on documented industry or international guidelines/standards is an asset.
• Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
