Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is a leading Canadian nuclear engineering group seeking an Electrical Engineer with 5–7 years of nuclear electrical design experience. You will prepare drawings, calculations and technical specs, while aligning with QA programs and regulatory requirements.

You’ll coordinate with clients and suppliers and support field construction and commissioning activities. Ideal candidates have an Electrical Engineering degree and PEO licensure in Ontario, with experience in MV/LV distribution

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Licensed as Professional Engineer in Ontario (PEO)
• 5–7 years of nuclear electrical engineering experience
• Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, diagrams and load lists
• Knowledge of CSA 22.1, OESC and related codes
• Experience with electrical power systems modelling is a plus

Overview

Your role

• Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
• Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare scope of work, input to bid proposals and requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
• Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders, provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters to execute assigned engineering work.
• Assist field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
• Perform field walk-downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
• Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications.

About you

• Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
• 5-7 years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design in the nuclear industry.
• Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/electrical load lists.
• Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations.
• Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.
• Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
• Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
• Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems.
• Knowledge of OPG and/or BP Engineering Change Control (ECC) process, standards and procedures is considered an asset.
• Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centers, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.
