Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a mechanical engineer to perform conceptual through detailed design for reactor components at a major Canadian nuclear group. You will prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications while aligning with codes and budgets.

You will lead design phases and liaise with regulatory bodies as needed. The role requires 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, GD&T proficiency, and PE licensure in Ontario or eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in mechanical engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience applying GD&T and performing stress calculations.
• Proficient with Excel and Mathcad for engineering calculations.
• Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design for reactor components through conceptual to detailed phases.
• Lead design work to meet codes, standards, quality, budget and schedule.
• Prepare and review calculations, drawings, BOMs, specs, and design docs.
• Support planning, scheduling, and coordination with technical leads and management.
• Interface with regulatory bodies (TSSA, CNSC) as required; support field activities.

Overview

Your role

• Perform conceptual, preliminary and detailed mechanical design engineering work for reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures meeting quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
• Conduct and/or lead conceptual, preliminary and detailed phases of the engineering work for reactor components.
• Prepare and review technical documents, such as: technical calculations, engineering drawings and bill of materials, design specifications, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
• Support the technical leads and management in the development, planning, and scheduling the work.
• Support new proposals, procurement engineering, manufacturing, qualification, and installation of the items and components designed.
• Define own work scope, prepare responses to technical questions, communicate to client as needed, monitor and report progress on own work.
• Prepare and review TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs and modifications.
• Interface with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required.
• Perform design review and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others.
• Support field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, Advanced Fuel Cycle, and closeout packages for EC revisions, etc.
• Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.

About you

• A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experienced in the application of GD&T.
• Experience in classical stress calculation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, or similar programs to perform calculations.
• Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
