Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Canada is seeking a Controls and Software Technologist to join the Pickering tooling team. You will support refurbishment tooling, validate software components, and maintain the development environment, ensuring compliance with QA programs and regulatory requirements.

You will design and test environments, provide site support, and help manage change control while collaborating with clients and suppliers to uphold technical quality and deliver on project milestones.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary technical degree or equivalent work experience.
• Interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Siemens PLC programming experience – STEP 7, S7-SCL, S7-GRAPH, S7-Starter.
• Siemens SCADA programming – WinCC Classic/WinCC Flexible.
• Siemens PROFIBUS/PROFInet experience.
• PELCO Endura knowledge is an asset.
• Nuclear QA program knowledge.
• Engineering Change Control processes familiar.
• MS Office proficiency (Word/Excel/Visio/PowerPoint).
• Willingness for shift work (days/afternoons/nights).

Responsibilities

• Execute assigned software project scope in a timely manner.
• Assess hardware and pre-developed software components for suitability.
• Design, install and test a product test environment.

Overview

As a new member of the Pickering tooling team, you will be involved with a variety of exciting refurbishment tools, supporting the design and modifications for the tooling systems. We are seeking an extremely self-motivated Controls and Software Technologist who is eager to advance their career in the nuclear industry. The successful candidate will perform engineering work in compliance with AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong collaboration with colleagues and clients to execute assigned engineering tasks with precision and quality.

Your role

• Responsible for timely execution of the assigned scope in the assigned software project capacities.

• Performing the suitability assessment (and qualifications where needed) of system hardware and pre‑developed software components.

• Responsible for designing, installing and testing of an assigned product test environment.

• Responsible for site support and software maintenance services.

• Implementing and maintaining the development environment (hardware and software) required to support project activities, including tool installation, backup and disaster recovery.

• Implementing and maintaining key project support systems (i.e., configuration management, document management and change control systems) for the tooling department.

• Supporting the selection and qualification of Control Systems hardware by the tooling group.

• Assist on preparing validation tests and/or reviewing the results of the validation testing.

• Responsible for change control - Using configuration management system provided by his/her department to maintain software files, releases and documentation. Preparing and maintaining work plans for the control software change activities.

• Responsible for OPEX Review - Assembling OPEX and assessing what changes should be incorporated in the future designs of Tooling and Equipment.

• Responsible for upholding the technical quality of the assigned scope.

• Responsible for reporting and suggesting resolutions to any potential impacts to technical quality identified by the various tool manufactures and vendors.

• Responsible for the assigned software project planning and scheduling activities.

• Prepare and deliver presentations related to software development and maintenance to clients, as required.

• Ensure all work activities are performed safely, in collaboration with the Project Safety Manager.

• Identify potential work scopes and opportunities for growth.

About you

• Post-secondary technical degree and/or equivalent work experience.

• Engineering drawings interpretation.

• Siemens PLC programming experience – Step 7, S7-SCL, S7-GRAPH, S7-Starter, SIMATIC NET, WinCC Flexbile and S7 Distributed Safety.

• Siemens SCADA programming experience – WinCC Classic.

• Siemens PROFIBUS and PROFITNET.

• PELCO experience (Endura Certified System Technician an asset).

• Nuclear Quality Assurance program knowledge.

• Engineering Change Control program knowledge.

• Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook.

• Shift work (days/afternoons/nights).
