Job summary

The YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a Comptroller to oversee and lead the organization’s finance function. Reporting to the CFO, this role provides financial leadership while maintaining accountability for the day-to-day execution of accounting operations.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner of leadership, helping guide the financial strategy, support operational decision-making, and strengthen financial performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting or equivalent experience specializing in financial oversight.
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience would be considered.
• Strong technical accounting capabilities including month-end procedures, journal entries and reconciliations.
• Experience with Sage 300 is required.
• Non-profit experience is preferred.

We are seeking a Comptroller to oversee and lead the organization’s finance function. Reporting to the CFO, this role provides financial leadership while maintaining accountability for the day-to-day execution of accounting operations. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner of leadership, helping guide the financial strategy, support operational decision-making, and strengthen financial performance. This position reports to our Association Services Office in St. John’s.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, or equivalent experience specializing in financial oversight would be considered
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Strong technical accounting capabilities (i.e., month-end accounting procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations)
• Sage 300 experience
• Previous experience in non-profit would be preferred
• Must be comfortable remaining actively involved in the details of the finance function, including financial reporting, controls, payroll and team leadership
• Criminal Record Checks are reviewed on an individual basis
