The Westman Group of Companies is seeking a Family Support Worker 3 for the In-Home Support program in Winnipeg. You will primarily work in client homes, providing safe, developmentally appropriate care for children while supporting families with daily tasks and routines.
Two years of related experience and a post-secondary credential in Human Services are preferred. Strong communication, cultural awareness and de-escalation skills are essential for this role, including mandatory First Aid/CPR.
Variety of locations in Winnipeg. All staff expected to work in the downtown area and attend head office when required. Occasional staff meetings occur at the head office location.
Client homes may be up to 15 km from the staff own home.

The In-Home support program strives to empower parents and children to reach their personal goals that restore, support and enhance family functioning, child development, parent-child relationships and parental health. The Family Support Worker, using a strength-based, solution-focused approach will develop a collaborative, helping relationship that is grounded in a spirit of respect, connection, curiosity and hope.
Completion of post‑secondary certificate or diploma program in Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Community/Family Support Worker or other Human Services education.
A combination of relevant experience and training will be considered for applicants without a diploma/certificate
Current First Aid and CPR is required (must be verified before any work placement/shifts arranged).
Mental Health First Aid is an asset.
De‑escalating Potentially Violent Situations or Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.
Minimum of two years’ related experience working in the social services sector with children, youth and/or parents impacted by poverty, trauma, mental illness, intimate partner violence, child welfare involvement, addictions, disability, racism and colonization.
Experience working together with parents to build and strengthen parent‑child relationships.
Experience identifying and reporting indicators of child abuse or a child in need of protection.
Experience assisting parents to meet developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and children, and recognizing milestones.
Experience with household management like providing assistance with household duties, meal preparation, budgeting strategies, making use of available family resources.
Experience with documentation and reporting.
A strong knowledge of Attachment Theory and child development.
Ability to use and model positive parenting practices which improve parent’s knowledge and child’s developmental competence.
Ability to use a positive, non‑judgemental, empathetic and strength‑based approach with all families.
Demonstration of cultural competency to work effectively and respectfully with people from different cultures and diverse backgrounds, including consideration of how social, historical contexts and imbalance of power have impacted people’s experiences.
Ability to practice cultural humility; acknowledging oneself as a learner when understanding others personal experiences, as well as demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and self‑reflection.
Knowledge and ability to use de‑escalation techniques, conflict resolution and crisis management
Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information of clients and families.
Ability to effectively communicate in English – verbally (Benchmark Level 7), to read, listen and write.
Writing and numeracy skills in order to satisfactorily correspond in writing via email or text.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally, is required.
A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel throughout the City of Winnipeg is considered an asset (not required)
Evenings and weekends required (minimum of 2 evenings/weekends)
Successful applicant will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search, a child abuse registry check, and an adult abuse registry check within 3 months of the employment offer date. (Must be verified before work placements/shifts are arranged).
The position involves providing direct support to individuals and may require physical activities such as lifting, standing and walking for extended periods. Successful applicant may be required to provide a functional abilities assessment to confirm physical ability to perform required duties.
