Job summary

Red Pheasant Cree Nation is initiating a CSO induction program for community safety officers. The selected candidate will complete an eight-week CSO Induction Course at Saskatchewan Polytechnic Prince Albert campus this fall, demonstrating the fitness level required to complete SOPAT and earn Special Constable authorities.

On completion, the officer will deliver high-priority, low-risk community services, maintain a uniformed presence, and liaise with Nation departments, RCMP, and Saskatchewan

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
• Minimum two character references.
• Must have no outstanding criminal charges and not be subject of a criminal investigation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high priority, low risk community services and provide a uniformed presence within Red Pheasant Cree Nation.
• Liaise with Nation departments, RCMP and Saskatchewan Marshals for information sharing and support.
• Enforce provincial statutes and First Nation laws including traffic, alcohol and gaming and bylaws under Special Constable authorities.

Job description

Intent to hire for a new upcoming program on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. The Nation is seeking a qualified candidate for the upcoming Community Safety Officer program. Full training is offered by the Nation.

Training

The qualified candidate will be sent for the CSO Induction Course, held over eight weeks at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Prince Albert campus. The candidate must be able to attend this fall for the full eight weeks, and will need a high level of fitness in order to complete the SOPAT during the training.

Criteria to apply

The candidate must be able to provide documentation of the following before enrolling in the course.

• Grade 12 school transcripts or equivalent
• Class 5 Driver’s License, as an experienced driver, along with a driver’s abstract
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Minimum two character references
• Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
• Must have no outstanding criminal charges and not be subject of a criminal investigation

The role

On completion of the CSO Induction Course, and with authorization of the Ministry under the Police Act, the Community Safety Officer will deliver high priority, low risk to harm community services and provide a uniformed presence within Red Pheasant Cree Nation. They will liaise with departments and entities within the Nation, and with the local RCMP and Saskatchewan Marshals, to provide support through information gathering and sharing.

The Community Safety Officer will enforce provincial statutes and First Nation laws, including but not limited to traffic, alcohol and gaming, and community specific bylaws, pursuant to their Special Constable authorities.
