Job summary

Bonaventure Support Services in Nanaimo is seeking a Community Housing Support Worker to help adults with diverse abilities thrive at home and in the community. The role emphasizes compassionate, person-centered support to foster dignity, independence, and belonging.

Working under the Program Manager and a supportive team, you will help people achieve goals, participate in community life, and build meaningful relationships.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Social Services, Community Support Work, or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities preferred.
• Ability to work independently and remain calm in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Support adults with daily living activities including health, nutrition, recreation, personal care, and community participation.
• Assist with developing life skills that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
• Apply positive behavioral strategies and crisis intervention techniques.
• Collaborate with families and community partners to provide holistic care.
• Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing are maintained.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with people supported and their families.
