Job summary

Bonaventure Support Services is a dynamic social service agency on Vancouver Island seeking a Community Housing Support Worker in Nanaimo. You will support adults, children and youth with diverse abilities in home and community settings, focusing on daily living needs and quality of life.

You will work under the Program Manager, collaborate with teams, and may provide crisis intervention and risk management as part of program approaches to ensure safety and dignity for those served.

Qualifications

  • Preferred formal education (Diploma or Degree, CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or work experience with persons with diverse-abilities and/or other relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal behavior and communication skills
  • The desire and ability to work with persons with diverse-abilities and demonstrate personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality.
  • Ability to work independently in a high stress environment.
  • Must be in good health with the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and shift responsibilities.
  • Required Documentation
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
  • RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A - Employer will file).
  • MCFD Hub Screening (Employer will file).
  • First Aid with CPR Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate.
  • Immunization Records or Medical Exemption.
  • Signed Bonaventure Hire Package.
  • References – (One must be a most recent employer, second and third must be able to speak to your ability to work with vulnerable youths).
  • Physician's Declaration.
  • TB Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities including personal and health care, behavioural, nutritional, recreational, social, vocational, educational, and environmental needs.
  • Provide support and advocate choice, while assisting individuals in various life skill areas.
  • Adhere to relevant legislation and regulations (Motor Vehicle Act, CLBC, MCFD, CARF, WorkSafe-BC, Employment Standards).
  • Work in collaboration with MCFD, CLBC, VIHA, DDMHT, HSCL, Behavior Consultants, etc. and Bonaventure Leadership team.
  • Uphold Bonaventure policies and procedures while modelling mission, values and ethics.
  • Demonstrate tolerance and respect for individuals while promoting dignity and rights.
  • Perform duties safely, reporting health or safety concerns.
  • Support and promote positive working relationships with family and team members.
  • Apply crisis intervention and risk management strategies.

Schedule: Monday & Friday (8am - 8am)

Wage: $536.29 - $569.94 per diem

Job Summary

Bonaventure Support Services is a dynamic and expanding social service agency on Vancouver Island. We offer a broad range of services, supports and opportunities to adults, children and youth who live with diverse abilities. Our focus is person centered with goal directed options, encouraging full participation in community. As a Community Housing Support Worker, you will follow the direction of the Program Manager, and function as part of a team to provide for the daily living needs of individuals both in their home and in the community. You will be responsible for enhancing one's quality of life, ensuring the physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs of supported individuals are met. A key component of this role may be crisis intervention and risk management, recognizing behavior as communication and promoting positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, safe, and competent manner. You may be required to provide mentoring and support when working directly and relationally with high-risk, vulnerable Individuals.
