The YMCA of Southwestern Alberta is seeking a Community Helpers Coordinator to administer a peer support program focused on mental health promotion and suicide awareness. You will help build the capacity of youth and young adults to access formal supports and address stigma related to help-seeking.

Reporting to the Director of Community Programs, you will lead customer service, training, and outreach while ensuring alignment with YMCA values and standards.

Qualifications

University Degree or Diploma in Human Services, Social Services, or Social Work.
Police check clear with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable.
Valid driver’s license with appropriate insurance and $2,000,000 liability coverage.

Position Title: Community Helpers Coordinator

Reports To: Director of Community Programs

Pay Grid: $21-$25/hour

Department: Community Programs

Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Temporary until March 31, 2028)

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

University Degree or Diploma in Human Services/Social Services/ Social Work
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months
Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 automobile insurance coverage business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of
$2,000,000 in liability coverage

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southwestern Alberta?

Reporting to the Director of Community Programs, the Community Helpers Coordinator, is responsible for administering a peer support program focused on mental health promotion and suicide awareness. Our goals is to build the capacity of youth and young adults in our community to help others access formal support and to address stigma related to help- seeking.

The responsibilities and duties of this role will include but is not limited to:

Customer Service

Be committed to exceptional customer service and create opportunities to enhance every person’s YMCA experience
Represents the YMCA and association in a professional manner is internal and external forums
Build community capacity for mental health promotion
Provide young people and our community with accurate information and resources related to mental health and suicide prevention
Facilitate training sessions with up to 30 people
