Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is seeking a Community Engagement & Administration Coordinator for a fixed-term paternity leave contract Oct 10–Dec 15, 24 hrs/week, on Salt Spring Island, BC, with a hybrid on-site/remote arrangement.
You’ll coordinate communications, course registrations, newsletters and volunteer activities, while maintaining CRM records and producing promotional materials. The role blends creative outreach with practical admin in a collaborative team.
The Farmland Trust is looking for a Community Engagement & Administration Coordinator!
The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is looking for an organized, creative and community-minded person to join our team for a paternity leave contract from October 10-December 15, with the possibility of renewal in 2027.
This is a varied, hands-on position at the intersection of community engagement, communications and administration. You’ll help us get the word out about courses, events, volunteer opportunities and campaigns—and make sure that the people who respond have a welcoming, well-organized experience from registration through to participation.
Our work ranges from regenerative agriculture and food security to community education, gleaning, workshops, fundraising and events. On any given day, you might be communicating with students about an upcoming Root to Bloom course, creating an Instagram post, reconciling registrations and payments, preparing a newsletter, putting up posters around town, tracking volunteers, or helping develop a fundraising campaign.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable wearing a lot of hats, enjoys working with people, and can keep the details straight while understanding the bigger picture of why the work matters.
The Community Engagement & Administration Coordinator will support the day-to-day communications and engagement work of the Farmland Trust, including:
Occasionally attending evening or weekend courses and events to host, support participants, take photographs and gather material for communications
We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, personable and self-directed, with strong written communication skills and a good eye for what makes community communications engaging and effective.
You don’t need to arrive knowing every platform we use (we use Canva, Adobe, Keela, Asana and Raisely). What matters most is that you are comfortable with digital tools, quick to learn, attentive to detail, and able to move between creative communications and practical administration.
Strong writing and editing skills are important. So is the ability to communicate warmly and professionally with a wide range of people—from students and volunteers to instructors, donors and community partners.
The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is a small, collaborative organization working to protect farmland, strengthen local food security and build a more resilient community.
We use a sociocratic organizational model, with shared decision-making, consent and consensus-building embedded in how we work. We are committed to creating organizational processes grounded in justice, inclusion, respect and collaboration.
This position works closely with other staff and requires someone who can take responsibility for their own work while also participating constructively in a collaborative team.
