Qualifications

• Experience in community social development, social policy or social planning (3–5 years).
• Experience building relationships with community organizations and partners.
• Experience with Indigenous peoples and diverse communities affected by systemic barriers.

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the full-time position of "Community Development Coordinator”in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.

The Community Development Coordinator leads the completion and implementation of the City’s Community Social Development Framework, establishing priorities and actions for where the City can have the greatest impact on community well-being. The position coordinates research, policy development, planning, and initiatives grounded in the social determinants of health, asset-based community development, equity, reconciliation, inclusion and accessibility.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Social Work or social services field, social planning, recreation, public administration, public health, or related discipline from a recognized educational institution.
• Criminal Records Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
• Current First Aid Standard Level - Industry and CPR Level A & C or willingness to obtain upon hiring
• Training in Trauma Informed Care, Cultural Safety, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, or related areas is an asset
• 3 – 5 years’ experience in community social development, social policy, and or social planning
• Considerable experience with building and maintaining relationships with community organizations and partners
• Experience working respectfully and collaboratively with Indigenous peoples and with people and communities that experience systemic barriers, including racialized people, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and people with lived and living experience of mental health and substance use, poverty, housing insecurity, and other forms of marginalization.
• Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of orders of government, relevant community-based services, as well as service priorities and gaps.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing and developing policies, practices and programs that involve complex interrelationships between community development, social sustainability, and community interest.
• Ability to work independently and with others; take initiative and demonstrate good judgment; and possess political and community acumen.
• Comfortable working with complex issues and in ambiguous situations. Excellent problem-solving skills and ethical decision-making skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, public speaking skills including conflict resolution skills. Ability to clearly communicate complex issues internally and externally.
• Experience with grants: sourcing, writing, and administration, as well as research and reporting.
• Experience in negotiating agreements, terms, and conditions with partnering agencies.

This is a full-time position. Salary $85,799 – $97,498 (Pay Band 3).
