Our Community ConnectionsDepartment islooking for a dedicated Community Connections Liaison to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
- Liaise with community groups to direct them to the best resources within the City or with other organizations.
- Align groups with appropriate City facilities and amenities.
- Align groups for participation in events and/or initiatives that support their mandate.
- Engage community groups to participate in public forums on issues that affect them such as open houses, surveys, workshops.
- Represent the City with community groups, gaining visibility into their mandate to support them through recommendations.
- Collaborate regularly with internal departments to understand business practices and any changes that may affect group interactions.
- Support community groups to facilitate grant applications/non-profit society status for groups who wish to enter into an agreement with the City.
- Coordinate contracts and agreements for Manager review, including user, lease, tenant, and funding agreements.
- Support non-profit organizations through referrals to community resource providers for Board Development, policy and bylaw development etc.
- Promote and facilitate community information sessions to communicate City information and initiatives that impact community groups.
- Liaise with community groups to ensure grant applications are complete or refer them to a better aligned grant.
- Promote internal grant opportunities by engaging with community groups and share external opportunities.
- Develop and implement sport tourism strategy in conjunction with internal City departments.
- Lead the development and execution of event bids directly, or through the coordination of bid committees.
- Provide bid document support for local organizations, facility requirements for sporting venues, and knowledge of funding opportunities.
- Keep informed of opportunities and trends of sport tourism and culture industries.
- Identify opportunities and strategies to increase the use of City outdoor recreational areas (e.g., parks, sport fields, tennis courts etc.)
- Keep informed of current best practices and initiatives in recreation, sport, and culture.
- Develop a deeper understanding of community groups’ needs and practices.
- Identify issues within groups and make recommendations for resolution.
- Research other communities for best practices and innovations.
- Identify needs and create initiatives or platforms to support community groups’ mandates.
- Provide administrative support by offering background, analysis, and recommendations for the Investment and Strategy Committee reports.
Qualifications
- Degree in recreation, sport, tourism, business administration or similar.
- IAP2 training considered an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of the recreation, sport, and culture community, various government ministries and funder mandates, programs and services.
- Knowledge and experience with grant programs and alignment of applications with grant funding streams.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of municipal services; the principles of public recreation and a community development approach to service provision.
- Ability to make sound judgments, gather information from a variety of sources and articulate findings effectively through verbal and written communication.
- Thorough understanding of the concept of and application of marketing principles and practices to ensure a high degree of public accessibility.
- Experience writing policies and procedures.
- Planning and organization skills that empower engaged citizens to connect and revitalize their community.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and the techniques of budget preparation and preparation of fees and charges.
- Report writing, facilitation and presentation.
- Leadership, negotiation and team building.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of non profits and the Alberta Society’s Act, including bylaws and policies and procedures.
- Ability to coordinate and monitor a number of activities and range of projects that can involve complex situations and often conflicting needs and interests.
- Ability to design or review and redesign existing processes to improve efficiency.
Hours
The standardworkweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule beingdetermined by theimmediate supervisor.
Compensation
Salary range $30.63 - $39.62 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
