Job summary

The Mikisew Cree First Nation is seeking a Community Based Monitoring (CBM) Coordinator in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. The role reports to the Environmental Manager, GIR, and is a full-time, temporary twelve-month contract focused on leading field monitoring and community engagement.

You will supervise CBM Guardians, coordinate field logistics, manage data, and ensure sampling plans and safety protocols are followed, contributing to environmental stewardship across traditional lands.

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating environmental fieldwork, logistics, schedules.
  • Experience supervising a small team.
  • Knowledge of sample handling and chain of custody procedures.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word skills.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous Knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate CBM field activities in Fort Chipewyan and surrounding areas.
  • Prepare field schedules and daily task assignments for CBM Guardians.
  • Supervise day-to-day CBM Guardian activities and field logistics.
  • Coordinate sample collection, labeling, and chain of custody.
  • Maintain field records, GPS locations, and program documentation.
  • Support onboarding, training, and development of CBM team members.
  • Enter and manage CBM data using Excel and approved systems.
  • Prepare field summaries, reports, and program updates.
  • Coordinate monitoring camps, community events, and engagement activities.
  • Ensure safety protocols and SOPs are followed.
