Job description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications & Community Development, this position assists with communication strategies and processes to improve stakeholder knowledge and understanding about the Society’s strategic vision and goals, to support change management directives, and to promote the programming and department needs of the Society.

Some specific duties :

  • Works with Senior Manager, Communications & Community Development to ensure that communications plans related to organizational changes, and the promotion of programs needs are successfully carried out.
  • Produces stories and other content in a variety of mediums (write, edit, photography, video production, digital content and social media platforms) that support the internal communications goals of the Society.
  • Collaborates with departments and internal stakeholders to support the development of comprehensive communications plans; execute on developed plans
  • Takes an active role in the organization and delivery of organizational communication mechanisms : Website, Coast Connect, MailChimp Newsletter, and internal-facing annual reporting needs.
  • Ensures internal communications messages have a consistent look and feel across all mediums and for different departments of the Society by ensuring the creation and accessibility of branded templates, etc.
  • Assists with general content creation within the Communications Department, as required. Specific projects may include : Mental Illness Awareness Week; AGM / Annual Report Campaign; Annual Data Statistics; Advocacy Campaign and production to support conferences / tradeshows
  • Coordinates workflows for department requests and deliverables using Office 365 toolkit and and platforms : UKG, Sharepoint, OneDrive.
  • Oversee the project coordination for vendor requests : printing, bulk mailings, apparel sourcing and internal distribution of materials
  • Oversees the management and distribution of corporate materials such as posters and apparel.
  • Identifies any areas of concern and works with appropriate parties to remedy, including providing specific suggestions to address any opportunities / challenges encountered.
  • Supports staff in the use of in-house channels, including creating / maintaining written resources and / or creating training modules / opportunities as required.
  • Supports the Senior Manager, Communications & Community Development, with payment and tracking of department expenses (Visa, KMs, Invoicing).
  • May be asked to sit on various committees and provide input / best practice considerations, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as required, such as coordination and logistics to support external / internal engagement activities.

Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma with a focus in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to provide / obtain the following upon hire
  • Certificates in WHMIS
  • Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance
  • Skilled storyteller with great people skills and a passion for creating and communicating
  • Ability to perform graphic design needs for print and online use using platforms such as Adobe or Canva
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe suite (design) / or Canva.
  • Expertise should include photography, video and editing skills
  • Proficient at developing and scheduling content for Coast’s digital channels : Facebook, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and website updating applications (WordPress)
  • Expertise and experience in strategic communications project planning and management.
  • Knowledge of best practices around digital accessibility, branding, marketing, and online
  • Superb interpersonal skills, particularly with reference to managing professional relationships and providing feedback related to communications best practices and companywide processes (examples : photo consent; editorial approval processes; file data management)
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, and systems thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to multi-task while paying attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to compile data and create content for a wide variety of audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate respectfully to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, planning and prioritizing a varied workload in order to meet fixed deadlines
  • Ability to manage confidential and / or sensitive issues in a professional manner
