SUMMARY
The Communications Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining regular communication with The Pastorate’s audience, creating and distributing content, and contributing to marketing and communications for in-person ministry activities. This individual excels in value-driven storytelling, the skills required for strong communication, and stays current on developments in the social media landscape. They also bring strong organization and support to gatherings/programs both in person and online, working closely with the Director of Ministries, Content, and Communication.
They hold the execution of Darrell Johnson’s ministry activities (podcast & socials) and contribute to fundraising activities such as proposal design, events, media, and Seed communications alongside the Director of Operations and Development.

Reports to: Director of Ministries, Content, and Communications
Hours: Part-time (20 hours per week), 1 Year Contract for Maternity Leave Coverage
Location: Remote; some travel may be required (2-3 trips annually)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Development and Communications - 65%
- Manages all Pastorate communications platforms including Email Marketing, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Website updates (where appropriate).
- Contributes at various stages in our content development process, including:
- Developing strategic focuses in our Planning Sessions and Team Meetings
- Creating Communications Calendars
- Creating and reviewing digital deliverables including, but not limited to, emails, photos, videos, social media posts, and short-form written content
- Publishing deliverables on the appropriate platforms
- Reporting on content performance in our Team Meetings
- Manages and maintains the organization of The Pastorate email database
- Engages with and manages comments, direct messages, and other communications through social media channels
Darrell Johnson - 25%
- Manage the monthly activities of Darrell’s portfolio:
- Weekly Sermon Podcast
- Lead the sermon volunteer team to analyze episodes
- Review episodes, coordinate intro recordings, and get episodes produced and released
- Create assets and social content related to the podcast
- Monthly Newsletter
- Working with the Director of Operations, draft, design, and send Darrell Johnson’s monthly newsletter
- Social Platforms and Website
- 1-2x weekly posts or content shared across platforms
- Support projects related to book publishing
- Maintain and update channels: podcast, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook
- Work to upload old video short content onto YouTube Shorts that’s not released
Fundraising - 10%
- Lead communication work for The Seed Giving Community:
- Leading the process for our monthly newsletter
- Sourcing and curating stories of pastors alongside the team
- Ideating ways to highlight impact through print and digital channels
- Development of a DRIP Campaign for new members of The Seed
- Support the Director of Operations in deliverables related to foundations, partners, and other givers (reports, proposals, slide decks, print materials)
- Contribute to fundraising events and projects as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience & Skills
- 3+ years experience in communications, marketing, or related fields (nonprofit or ministry experience is an asset)
- Demonstrated proficiency in managing digital platforms including Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp or similar)
- Strong storytelling and content creation skills across multiple formats (written, visual, video, and audio)
- Proficiency in basic graphic design and layout (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent)
- Comfort with light video editing and social media formatting
- Proficiency using Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, and Zoom
- Organizational Ability
- Strong project management and planning skills
- Ability to juggle multiple timelines and responsibilities
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of follow-through and accountability
