Symphony Nova Scotia announces the following vacancy:

Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist plays a critical role in managing and implementing the organization’s communication strategy by developing and disseminating content that engages, inspires, motivates and builds interest in the Symphony’s programs and activities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing SNS’s social media strategy, direct marketing (email/letter) initiatives, website content, other PR/marketing initiatives, and plays a key role in content development for marketing collateral such as brochures and programs.

This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) and works with team members to develop clear, strong brand messaging, ensuring consistent quality standards are met in all communications for both the professional and youth orchestras.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Brand management—work closely with the Director of Marketing to establish brand standards and ensure adherence to brand and quality standards in all marketing materials and content
  • Direct marketing strategy—work closely with the Director of Marketing to develop and implement direct marketing campaigns to retain and attract audiences
  • Social media strategy—develop and implement a social media content strategy including crafting messages and managing social accounts for all social channels
  • Marketing content—develop and lead implementation of strategic marketing content, including season brochures, concert programs, annual report, and website content
  • Communications—develop written content for press releases, patron emails, and other internal and external communications
  • Scheduling and organization—establish and manage a marketing content calendar

About You

You are a strong communicator, creative thinker, problem solver, and relationship builder. You are self-directed but also work well with a team of creative colleagues. You are organized, adaptable, and approach your work with a project management mindset.

You have:

  • a degree in Communications, Marketing, PR or related field
  • minimum 3-5 years experience in a similar role
  • exceptional writing and editing skills
  • expertise in all major social media platforms and the ability to develop and post content suited to each
  • strong understanding of video and audio production as it applies to content marketing
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)

Knowledge of music (particularly classical music) considered to be a very strong asset.
