Job summary

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia is seeking a dedicated Clinical Manager to oversee hearing and speech clinical services and administrative functions. The role leads program development, quality assurance, staff development, and interagency collaboration across Nova Scotia’s clinical sites.

The manager will travel across Nova Scotia, require vaccination proof, and report to the Director with a focus on patient safety, equity, and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Registered member or eligible for NS Regulator and eligible for SAC/CAA membership.
• Minimum of three years clinical experience, with two years in pediatrics.
• Management or supervisory experience in healthcare setting.
• Strong collaboration with interagency partners and community organizations.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; proficiency in English.

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites, located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals, provide core services (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment), develop and monitor provincial clinical standards, and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g., Autism, Stroke, Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963, HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians.

administrative functions. The home site for this position is at the Provincial Office in Halifax. Note: compensation is currently under review.

Reporting to the assigned Director and in collaboration with the HSNS management team and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of clinical services including oversight of the quality and delivery of professional clinical services within the overall vision, mission, values, ethical framework, and goals of the organization. The manager fosters a culture that promotes HSNS organizational values and ethics, champions patient safety and quality improvement, supports clients and their families’ participation in their care, and supports a respectful, healthy, safe, ethical, and productive work environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Leadership and service planning (oversight of allocation, quality of service, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders)
• Management of human resources (recruiting, orientation, clinical support, and performance management) and staff wellness
• Quality management including program development and evaluation (risk management, quality improvement and patient safety)
• Financial/resource management within assigned portfolio (identifies budget requirements and monitors expenditures within an approved budget)
• Staff development/clinical education (identifies staff learning needs and recommends training opportunities)
• Utilization and data management (establishes performance measures and ensures quality and integrity of workload data)

This position involves travel throughout Nova Scotia and requires flexibility in work scheduling (a regular schedule to be provided at time of offer and subject to change). The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date and will be required to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters by the end of the probationary period.

This position offers opportunities in health care management, professional education, coaching, mentorship, program development and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement. Program portfolio, staff, site, and team lead assignments may change over time to reflect organizational requirements. The preferred start date is August 31, 2026.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
• Registered member of the Nova Scotia Regulator of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology or eligible for membership
• Member of SAC or CAA or eligible for membership
• Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience, with two (2) years within pediatric services
• Management/supervisory experience, preferably in a healthcare environment
• Experience with interagency collaboration and community partnerships
• Program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, with client-centered approach
• Skills in working effectively with diverse community partners
• Demonstrated ethical standards in business/professional practices
• Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that nurture equity, diversity and inclusivity and reconciliation.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Skills in Microsoft Office applications
• Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; travel is required
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Assets:

• Formal training in management and leadership (e.g., LEADS or similar framework)
• Clinical experience with varied hearing, balance, speech, swallowing, and language caseloads
• Knowledge and recent experience in Autism service delivery development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
• Demonstrated success leading change
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• Occupational health, safety and risk management training including psychological safety
• Proficiency in languages other than English
