Job summary

Altis in Ottawa is seeking a bilingual Communications Advisor for a 6-month contract. The role focuses on strategic communications, stakeholder advisory and audience engagement across the country.

You will work in a collaborative team, balancing long-term planning with fast-moving priorities, in a hybrid setup with two days onsite per week. Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken, is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, media relations or content strategy.
• Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations or equivalent education and experience.
• Advanced English and French proficiency, written and spoken.
• Strong knowledge of traditional and digital communications, media relations, issues management and social media strategy.
• Experience developing content strategies, advising stakeholders and influencing communications decisions.
• Excellent judgment, resourcefulness and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
• Experience in journalism, agency, public-sector or arts & culture environments is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop strategic communications plans, key messages and engaging content for newsletters, bulletins, announcements and digital platforms.
• Advise internal stakeholders, understand objectives and recommend effective communications approaches.
• Manage media inquiries, support issues management and prepare thoughtful responses to sensitive topics.
• Balance proactive campaigns and long-term projects with urgent requests requiring quick turnaround.
• Collaborate across departments to coordinate communications initiatives, events and announcements.
• Contribute to social media strategies and identify opportunities to strengthen audience engagement.
