Job summary

Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) is seeking a Commodity Accountant in Winnipeg, MB to ensure accurate analysis and reporting of accounting activities for the Grain division. You will support month-end P&L, cost analysis, and reconciliations, collaborating with grain traders and finance teams.

The role requires a accounting background, with knowledge of hedging and futures markets, strong Excel skills, and the ability to deliver timely, accurate reporting for informed decision making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• CPA designation or CPA program enrollment is an asset.
• Experience in commodity accounting and/or grain accounting is an asset.
• Knowledge of hedging and futures markets.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, with advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct month-end commodity P&L analysis, including CAD and USD functional commodities.
• Provide timely analysis and communication of commodity P&L results to grain traders.
• Analyze commodity-related expenses and freight costs to identify variances, trends and cost drivers.
• Complete monthly accounting reconciliations.
• Prepare and review monthly reports across systems to support operations and decision-making.
• Prepare and post manual journal entries accurately.
• Complete monthly account reconciliations for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist with external financial reporting requirements.

The Role

As Commodity Accountant, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate completion of the analysis and reporting of accounting activities for the Grain division.

Day to Day

• Conduct month-end commodity profit and loss analysis, including CAD functional and USD functional commodities
• Provide timely analysis and communication of commodity P&L results to grain traders
• Analyze commodity-related expenses and freight execution costs to identify variances, trends and cost drivers
• Complete monthly accounting reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly reports across various systems to support business operations and decision-making.
• Prepare and post manual journal entries in a timely and accurate manner.
• Complete monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Assist with external financial reporting requirements.

What Youll Bring

• Bachelors degree, with a concentration in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CPA designation or enrollment in a CPA program is considered an asset
• Experience in commodity accounting and/or grain accounting is an asset
• Knowledge of hedging and future markets
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 Application Suite, with advanced skills in Excel
• Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time-management skills
