If you are an experienced Piping Commissioning Management Coordinator looking for your next opportunity, Aplin has an exciting role for you. Our client, a recognized leader in their industry, has partnered with Aplin to add an experienced professional to their growing team in Edmonton.

The Piping Commissioning Management Coordinator is a key member of the Construction Management Team and acts as the Owner’s field representative and execution leader for assigned piping construction activities on a major industrial capital project.

This position is responsible for directing, overseeing, and coordinating the safe, efficient, and effective execution of piping construction activities performed by contractor organizations. The Coordinator is accountable for supporting project safety, quality, cost, schedule, completion, and turnover objectives while exercising delegated authority to review, validate, approve, and authorize field activities within their area of responsibility.

As part of the Owner’s construction leadership team, the Coordinator provides operational leadership and oversight of contractor organizations responsible for piping installation, welding, non-destructive examination (NDE), pressure testing, tie-ins, system completion, turnover, and related construction activities.

The role requires strong independent judgment to establish construction priorities, coordinate work sequencing, resolve field execution challenges, mitigate risks, and direct corrective actions. The Coordinator will also monitor contractor performance, evaluate construction strategies, review work methodologies, and ensure contractor activities remain aligned with project milestones and operational objectives.

The position will work closely with multiple contractor organizations and project stakeholders, coordinating interfaces between piping, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, pre-commissioning, quality, safety, commissioning, turnover, and operations teams.

This is a site-based position requiring full-time presence at the project site for the duration of the project, estimated at 10 to 16 months.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Owner’s representative and construction leader for assigned piping construction activities.
• Direct and oversee contractor execution of piping installation, welding, NDE, pressure testing, tie-ins, reinstatement, mechanical completion, and turnover activities.
• Lead construction execution within the assigned area, maintaining accountability for safety, quality, productivity, schedule, and turnover performance.
• Review and approve contractor work plans, execution strategies, construction methodologies, sequencing plans, permits, and recovery plans within delegated authority.
• Establish construction priorities and coordinate work sequencing to optimize productivity, resource utilization, and schedule performance.
• Provide operational leadership and direction to contractor supervision, ensuring alignment with project requirements and construction management expectations.
• Monitor contractor staffing, supervision, productivity, work quality, and overall execution effectiveness, directing corrective actions where required.
• Review and validate contractor daily Labour, Equipment, and Materials reports, confirming workforce levels, equipment utilization, progress, and reported quantities.
• Issue, monitor, and close Construction Hazard Work Permits, ensuring work scope, site conditions, hazards, isolations, and interface activities are properly reviewed and controlled before work is authorized.
• Resolve field execution challenges through timely decision-making and sound construction judgment to minimize impacts to project objectives.
• Coordinate interfaces between piping, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, commissioning, turnover, and operations stakeholders.
• Identify construction risks, assess potential impacts, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Exercise the authority to stop, redirect, reprioritize, or modify construction activities when necessary to address safety, quality, operational, or schedule concerns.
• Verify construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, applicable codes, project standards, and Owner requirements before accepting progress or supporting turnover readiness.
• Lead field reviews, construction readiness assessments, turnover evaluations, and punch-list prioritization activities.
• Provide recommendations to senior project leadership regarding contractor performance, resource allocation, execution strategies, scope clarification, construction priorities, and corrective actions.
• Support system completion, operational readiness, turnover, and commissioning activities while maintaining focus on project milestones and business objectives.
• Promote a strong culture of safety leadership, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the construction organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive industrial construction leadership experience, with extensive expertise in piping construction.
• Demonstrated experience directing contractor activities and leading field execution on large-scale industrial, petrochemical, energy, oil and gas, hydrogen, or major capital projects.
• Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and make operational decisions related to construction execution, work sequencing, resource prioritization, and risk management.
• Strong knowledge of construction management practices, construction drawings, specifications, piping systems, welding, quality requirements, testing activities, construction sequencing, and turnover processes.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements and apply sound judgment to field execution decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead contractor organizations, influence project outcomes, and achieve results through effective coordination and oversight.
• Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and construction excellence.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a demanding, dynamic, and site-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience serving as an Owner’s Representative or as a member of an Owner’s Construction Management Team on major capital projects.
• Experience working within an Owner’s project organization with responsibility for contractor oversight, construction coordination, execution planning, and field decision-making.
• Previous responsibility for contractor oversight, field execution leadership, construction planning, resource prioritization, and operational decision-making.
• Experience reviewing and approving contractor execution strategies, directing corrective actions, resolving complex construction issues, and improving contractor performance.
• Demonstrated ability to influence contractor performance and drive successful project outcomes.
• Experience managing multi-discipline interfaces and coordinating construction activities across large contractor workforces.
• Proven ability to achieve project objectives through strong leadership, contractor oversight, and effective management of field execution activities.
