Job Purpose:

The Estimator plays a crucial role in the estimating team, contributing to the creation of accurate budgets and estimates for construction projects. This position involves working closely with the Chief Estimator and other team members to prepare competitive bids, analyze costs, and support the overall estimating process for a variety of construction projects in Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Estimating and Bid Preparation:
   1. Review contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and tender forms.
   2. Develop detailed quantity takeoffs using industry-standard software.
   3. Prepare accurate cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work.
   4. Develop preliminary construction schedules and project logistics planning.
   5. Assist in identifying and addressing ambiguities or unique technical requirements in bid documents.
   6. Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotes.
   7. Contribute to the development of bid preparation schedules and ensure deadlines are met.
2. Analysis and Reporting:
   1. Conduct risk and opportunity analysis on projects outlining mitigation strategies.
   2. Participate in bid review meetings and present findings to senior management.
   3. Assist in post-bid analysis and lessons learned sessions.
   4. Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of historical cost databases.
   5. Support the development of estimating standards and strategies.
3. Project Support:
   1. Provide estimating support for change orders and project variations as needed.
   2. Assist Project Managers with cost-related inquiries during project execution.
   3. Participate in pre-construction meetings when required.
   4. Stay updated on industry trends, new construction methods, and estimating technologies.
   5. Contribute to the improvement of estimating processes and procedures.
   6. Assist in the implementation and utilization of estimating software and tools.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Education and Certifications:
   1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
   2. Gold Seal Certification in Estimating (in progress or willing to pursue).
   3. PQS or CEC is considered an asset.
2. Experience:
   1. 5-8 years of estimating experience in the construction industry, preferably with a general contractor in Western Canada.
   2. Diverse experience in working with different types of commercial projects ranging in values between $2-20 million dollars.
   3. Proficiency in estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, Sage 300, and Procore.
3. Technical Skills:
   1. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
   2. Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
   3. Proficient in reading and interpreting Canadian Contracts including CCDC 2, CCDC 5B, and CCDC 14.
   4. Proficient in developing a construction execution plan, and project schedule.
   5. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and construction-specific software.
4. Soft Skills:
   1. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
   2. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
   3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
   4. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
   5. Team player with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
