Job summary

Intact is seeking a Claims Consultant in the Property Large Loss team to handle complex, multi-line claims across Canada and internationally. This role focuses on settlement of high-value property losses, guiding disputes and ensuring efficient resolution.

You will mentor colleagues, coordinate with counsel and engineers, and contribute to budget and performance goals while working in a flexible, hybrid workplace.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or CIP designation is preferred.
• Experience with large, complex property claims is required.
• Bilingualism in French and English is required for Quebec-based candidates; elsewhere, it’s an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage and resolve large, complex property claims above $1M.
• Coordinate with counsel, adjusters, and engineers to confirm coverage and liability.
• Mentor regional file handlers and provide technical guidance.
• Train colleagues on complex claims handling.
• Collaborate with underwriters and loss prevention to identify risks and trends.
• Deliver high-quality customer service to brokers and clients.
• Meet KPIs for loss development and expense management.
• Support continuous improvement and best practices in operations.

Salary Range (but Not Limited To)

118,700 - 145,100

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About The Role

As a Claims Consultant in our Property Large Loss team, you will handle multi-line complex claims through all distribution channels. You will be responsible for the direct handling and monitoring of complex first party and third-party claims with exposures in Canada and Internationally. The types of losses may include Commercial Property, Energy, Equipment Breakdown, Environmental Liability and additional Specialty Claims. The Claims Consultant performs the settlement of complex claims, civil liability or property damage, plays a fundamental role in managing the processes surrounding disputes or alternative dispute resolution bodies, undertakes the functions of analysis and evaluation of claims, liability and provisions and contribute to unit priorities, including providing expertise as needed, mentoring and participating in the budget process.

What You’ll Do Here

• Manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve large and complex commercial property claims generally with exposures over $1M or involving specialized kind of loss within Canada and internationally
• Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability and assess damages
• Mentor, guide and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long term succession planning
• Train colleagues on complex claims handling
• Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned
• Provide brilliant customer service to Brokers, Customers, and Colleagues
• Deliver and exceed on all key performance indicators as it relates to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management
• Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations
• Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate
• Attend settlement conferences and trials
• Attend loss locations and other client and broker meetings, when appropriate

• 10+ years experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims.
• Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position

• Flexible to travel as needed
