Job summary

The City of Edmonton is seeking a Coin Processing Technician to manage currency received from municipal departments with precision and security. You will operate high-capacity counting and sorting equipment, verify cash, and prepare documentation for deposits.

In this role you will maintain accurate financial records, perform preventative maintenance on equipment, and support the municipality’s cash-handling procedures while upholding confidentiality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 6 months experience with mechanical equipment and maintenance.
  • 6 months cash handling experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receive currency from City Departments and verify currency.
  • Operate currency counting/sorting equipment.
  • Prepare and exchange currency for the LRT System.
  • Inspect cash boxes, seals, and locks for compliance with cash handling procedures.
  • Prepare currency documentation and statistical records.
  • Prepare bank and armored car documentation.
  • Perform repairs/adjustments on mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance and tests on equipment.

Job description

Join the Coin Processing Centre and play a vital role in the City of Edmonton's financial operations! The Coin Processing Technician is responsible for the precise and secure management of currency collected from various municipal departments. This position utilizes expertise in cash-handling protocols and rigorous attention to detail to ensure the efficient processing, verification, and deposit of all received funds. Operating high-capacity mechanical currency sorters, the incumbent optimizes daily operations while maintaining comprehensive and accurate financial records. Candidates possessing a commitment to operational accuracy and financial integrity are encouraged to apply and contribute to the municipality's fiscal operations.

What will you do?
  • Coin Processing Technicians receive currency from City Departments. They prepare, count, verify all currency, process the currency with mechanical counting and sorting equipment
  • Prepare and exchange currency for the LRT System
  • Inspect all shipping/receiving of currency, cash boxes, seals and locks for compliance to cash handling procedures
  • Prepare documentation of currency received
  • Prepare statistical documentation
  • Prepare bank and armored car documentation
  • Perform repairs and adjustments on various mechanical equipment
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance and tests on equipment
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • 6 months experience working in an environment with mechanical equipment and the maintenance of equipment, 6 months cash handling experience
Skills required for success:
  • Data entry skills including efficient skills with Microsoft Excel/Word, Google Sheets/Docs Knowledge of accounting practices
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, which include repetitive lifting of 25 to 40 lbs between 200 and 300 times per day, including from floor to equipment height of 4 feet
  • Ability to work in a highly secure and confidential environment
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to service and maintain equipment
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to establish priorities and effectively handle several tasks simultaneously
Work Environment:
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary Range: $28.647 - 35.922 (Hourly); $59,814.940- $75,005.140 (annually)
