Job summary

MAXX North America Services is seeking a coatings/QC technician to inspect blasting and coating activities across field projects in Canada. You will ensure surface prep meets project requirements and client specs, while supporting safety and training initiatives.

You will operate coating and blasting equipment, review material test reports, and maintain QA documentation in a dynamic field environment with rotating shifts and out-of-town work.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to inspect coating and blasting processes.
  • Experience with QA/QC documentation and NCR handling.
  • Knowledge of industry safety regulations and standard operating procedures.

Job description

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to construction personnel to verify construction activities comply with project requirements.
  • Provide expertise on Blasting and Application techniques and methods as needed.
  • Provide expertise on inspection techniques and methods as needed.
  • Participate in the development of QA and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support team in equipment inspections and verification
  • Coordinate with Fleet team on equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Develop and Maintain Equipment Certification Logs and Calibrations
  • Support field teams with Coating Inspections and Verifications
  • Assist in the development of crew training and coater training plans
  • Support and mentor field coating staff
  • Report all non-conforming conditions in accordance with the QMS NCR process.
  • Receive and inspect materials, review material test reports (MTR's) ensuring compliance with the latest codes, standards, client specifications, and assure the material management process is followed.
  • Review IFC Project Drawings confirming latest revisions, P&ID’s, line lists, specifications etc.
  • Daily monitoring and reporting of site-specific QC related tasks.
  • Ensure all Quality Control documentation is compiled and completed in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct daily quality inspections of contracted third parties.
  • Ensure all Coating reports are reviewed and filed in the QC Project Turnover Package.
  • Verify all testing equipment is calibrated, the certificate of calibration is reviewed for accuracy and filed in the QC Project Turnover Package.
  • Operate the Sand blasting truck unit
  • Operate air and power tools
  • Operate or tend equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare items for application of paint, lacquer or other protective or decorative coatings
  • Operate or tend equipment to clean, degrease, pickle and etch metal and non-metal surfaces to prepare workpieces with desired surface characteristics
  • Set up and operate a blast booth or similar equipment
  • Load and unload the blast cabinet
  • Assist with painting or coating as needed
  • Set up, prepare, and mix epoxy coatings according to ratios and or client specifications
  • Prepare and mix epoxy solutions according to formulas or specifications
  • Tend automatic coating machines which convey objects through a series of cleaning, rinsing and plating solutions
  • Tend machines or use brushes and spray equipment to apply Epoxy solution to surfaces
  • Operate machines or equipment to deposit epoxy solution on workpieces and surfaces to provide protective and restorative coatings.
  • Operate coating equipment or other mechanized painting or product coating application equipment
  • Operate spray equipment to build up worn or damaged parts or to bond protective or decorative coatings on various objects
  • Understand equipment and pressures to correctly applicate above or below grade coating and paint systems
Work Conditions
  • The job requires the use of a tablet/laptop
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required
  • Work will take place on job sites in various locations. Work will be done on rotating shifts.
  • Will work directly with Coaters and remainder of crew
  • Work will be done in various climate conditions. Physically demanding role including bending and heavy lifting.
  • Living out allowance is provided while working out of town
Health Safety & Environmental
  • Report all incidents to the Quality Manager & HSE Manager ASAP; Ensure safety report is filled out ASAP.
  • Participate in incident reviews as directed by the Quality Manager;
  • Participate in lessons learned sessions to prevent recurrence;
  • Prepare performance agreement in conjunction with Division Manager
  • Provide input and feedback on employee performance assessments
  • Lead by example and models core values in all actions; ensure a positive, respectful team environment, fostering collaboration and development.
  • Support and lead the development of training plans and crew application ticketing
Qualifications
  • Required Safety Tickets: CSTS 20, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid – Level C CPR/AED, Ground Disturbance – Level II, Confined Space (Job Dependent)
  • Required pre-employment Occupational Testing: Drug and Alcohol, Audiometric, Hearing Protection Fit, Respiratory Mask Fit
