Job summary

IPG is seeking a Machine Tender to operate and maintain tape manufacturing equipment in a fast-paced production environment in Cornwall, Ontario. The role focuses on preparing materials, setting up machines, adjusting components, and supporting coating line operations to uphold safety and production targets.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 1 year in manufacturing, forklift certification, and strong mechanical skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift license or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and machine setup manuals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and production procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and blend adhesives; fill hoppers and tanks as required.
  • Handle raw materials, including chemicals and coatings.
  • Load, splice, and thread raw material rolls through machines.
  • Perform machine changeovers and adjust components such as blades and profiles.
  • Unload jumbo rolls and change shafts safely and efficiently.
  • Operate forklifts, complete safety checks, and change batteries as needed.
  • Record raw material usage and calculate application rates.
  • Monitor machine performance and assist with troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Support coating line operations and cover for the operator when necessary.
  • Set up materials and documentation for the incoming shift.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with inventory accuracy.
  • Train new employees on machine operation and safety procedures.

Position Description

Department: Coating

Reports to: Supervisor

Status: Full Time

Position Purpose: The Machine Tender plays a key role in supporting production by operating and maintaining tape manufacturing equipment. This position is responsible for preparing materials, performing machine setups and changeovers, assisting with quality control and troubleshooting. By ensuring smooth machine operation and collaborating with team members, the Machine Tender helps maintain safe working conditions, minimize downtime, and achieve production targets.

Principle Accountabilities
  • Prepare and blend adhesives; fill hoppers and tanks as required
  • Handle raw materials, including chemicals and coatings
  • Work in classified hazardous (explosive) environments
  • Load, splice, and thread raw material rolls through machines
  • Perform machine changeovers and adjust components such as blades and profiles
  • Unload jumbo rolls and change shafts safely and efficiently
  • Operate forklifts, complete safety checks, and change batteries as needed
  • Record raw material usage and calculate application rates
  • Monitor machine performance and assist with troubleshooting to minimize downtime
  • Support coating line operations and cover for the operator when necessary

  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, working safely around machinery and PPE requirements.

Work Conditions
  • Safety-sensitive position

  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, industrial equipment and noise
  • Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
  • Physically demanding work including lifting up to 55 lbs and standing for extended periods
  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment requiring attention to detail
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential
  • Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory
  • This role requires work in areas where the use of non‑approved electronic devices and equipment is restricted. Candidates must be able to work in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
