Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Description

Title: Cast Line Operator

Department: Converting/Extrusion

Immediate Supervisor: Manufacturing Supervisor

Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Position Purpose: The Cast Line Operator operates, maintains, and controls the production equipment and process on the production floor to produce a high quality finished hand wrap or machine wrap roll in a safe and productive manner to efficiently service customer orders by performing the following duties.

  • Prepares line for shift by ensuring an ample supply of materials is on hand or is readily accessible for the efficient operation of the line
  • Sets up the line by operating the equipment to form the web, threading the line, and pulling the plastic film through the winders.
  • Adjusts the line to correct specifications by setting necessary controls and process conditions.
  • Monitors the line to maintain quality under continuously changing conditions by adjusting die bolts, Extrol controls, edge pinning, winder settings, and other process settings to ensure quality of film produced.
  • Conducts quality tests by checking film samples for proper prestretch, stretch force, cling, puncture and gauge as compared to quality specifications. Ensures that film doesn’t have any other quality deficiencies. Records results of tests and makes adjustments to process/equipment as required.
  • Periodically verifies rollweights against target and records those roll weights on Cast Winder Check sheet. Ensures that recipe verifications are completed at the start of each shift and after every product change.
  • Ensure that all product is properly packaged, correctly labeled, tagged and putaway.
  • Participates in the correct application of the “Hold Card” for all nonconforming product, including initial investigation of cause.
  • Properly operates and connects the push-pull system to railcars as assigned by pump tickets received from scheduling.
  • Properly move, stage, and consume all materials. Return all unused materials to the proper location.
  • Completes daily paperwork and line closeouts.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand, pallet jack, or forklift
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, machines, and equipment.
  • Identifies and reports deficiencies in product quality or packaging.
  • Operates automatic core cutter.
  • Operates railcar unloader.
  • Operates baler and denisifer as assigned.
  • Operates grinder and repelletizer as assigned.
  • Weigh, label, tag, and identify all scrap correctly and properly locate.
Essential Skills And Experience
  • High school or general education degree (GED)
  • 1+ years of production experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
  • Ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, length, and time measurement.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding and experience to make decisions regarding rolls that do not meet quality standards, machine adjustments to maintain quality, machine start up and shut down.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
