Job summary

Elexicon Energy is seeking a cooperative education student to support Substation Technicians in maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of electrical substation equipment. You will gain hands-on experience in a utility environment while following safety practices.

Under supervision, you will assist with planned maintenance, inspections, electrical testing and documentation, building practical knowledge of electrical power systems and field operations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in electrical power systems and the electrical utility industry.
• Strong willingness to learn and accept direction from experienced personnel.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Good knowledge of safety rules and safe work practices.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Ability to work around energized electrical equipment while maintaining strict safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Support Substation Technicians in maintenance, testing, inspection and troubleshooting of substation equipment.
• Follow IHSA, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and company safety standards.
• Gain exposure to low, medium and high voltage equipment and apply classroom knowledge in a utility setting.
• Assist with planned maintenance, inspections, testing and documentation.
• Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Travel within Elexicon’s jurisdiction for emergency calls and alarms.
