Job summary

CIHI invites a co-op student to join the Shared Health Priorities team, contributing to priority projects and helping CIHI deliver better data and decisions for healthier Canadians. You will support environmental scans, literature reviews and analysis, and assist in content development and information management processes.

You will work in a collaborative, supportive environment with opportunities to develop professionally while advancing CIHI’s mandate in health data insights.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a graduate program requiring Co-op
  • Experience conducting literature searches and writing for diverse audiences
  • Experience in qualitative research and with qualitative/text analytics software (asset)
  • Knowledge of current health and social issues (asset)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health system, health inequalities and determinants (asset)
  • Ability to work in a small team with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication with ability to interpret and present analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Fluency in English; bilingualism is an asset

Responsibilities

Why is this role important?

As a co-op student you will be involved in a variety of activities that support priority projects for our branch, that help drive CIHI’s overall mandate to deliver on better data, better decisions, for healthier Canadians. The student is responsible for providing support and assistance to the Shared Health Priorities team in their work to facilitate the execution of CIHI’s priorities and related initiatives.

What you'll do
  1. Support the coordination and development of CIHI’s cross-functional work on the Federal, Provincial and territorial shared health priorities portfolio
  2. Perform environmental scan and literature reviews for current and relevant health information topics
  3. Perform thematic analysis of different topics and summarize results/findings
  4. Contribute to the development and maintenance of products that help internal monitoring and support reporting
  5. Support management and organization of the team’s information management system
  6. Support content development for emails, internal communiques, webpages, presentations and other mechanisms for communication as needed
  7. Support and participate in collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Thematic Priorities branch and with other teams
  8. Attend meetings and write related minutes as required
What you'll bring to the table
  • Working towards a graduate (Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Administration, Health Sciences, Health Informatics) program requiring Co-op as part of educational requirement
  • Experience conducting literature searches and reviews, and writing short texts for different audiences (public or professional)
  • Experience in qualitative research and working with qualitative research or text analytics software is an asset
  • Knowledge of current health and social issues is a strong asset
  • Knowledge about the Canadian health system, health inequalities measurement, and determinants of health is an asset
  • Ability to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience interpreting, presenting and writing results of analysis and synthesizing research
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Fluency in English required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset
