Job summary

CIHI in Canada is seeking a co-op student to support the advancement of case mix’s acute care products, focusing on testing changes to methodology and predictive models for hospital resource use and length of stay. You’ll maintain grouping and indicator methods and work nationally on health data projects.

You will gain hands-on experience with Python, Pyspark, and Office tools while documenting results and presenting findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree requirements with co-op as part of the program.
  • Fluent English; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Python/Pyspark and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, collaborate, monitor, report and document activities.

Why is this role important?

In this role you will be supporting the advancement of case mix’s acute care products, primarily focusing on testing potential changes to the methodology and associated algorithms used to predict resource utilization and estimated length of stay hospital patients. This job will focus on maintaining and enhancing the existing grouping and indicator methodology. These case mix products are used nationally in hospitals and by health system providers to help monitor and manage hospital-based care.


As a co-op student, you will be involved in a variety of activities to support priority projects within our department. These projects are key in helping us drive CIHI’s overall mandate to deliver on better data, better decisions, for healthier Canadians. This unique opportunity will expose you to areas of hospital inpatient and outpatient grouping methodology and concerns. You’ll get to further your experience in using Python, adapting predictive models as well as Microsoft office products for documentation and presentation of results.


What you'll do


  • 1. Use Python (and associated tools such as VSCode and Pyspark) for maintaining and enhancing case mix grouping and indicator methodology.

  • 2. Coordination, collaboration, communication, monitoring, reporting, and documentation of activities

  • 3. Actively participate in problem-solving and proposing solutions

  • 4. Work with team to test and refine methodology and suggest enhancements or solutions to the challenges to improving CIHI’s national grouping and indicator process.


What you'll bring to the table


  • -Working towards a graduate degree in health, data science, computer science or software engineering in a program requiring Co-op as part of educational requirement.

  • -Proficient with Microsoft office suite.

  • -Knowledge of technical tools (Python/Pyspark).

  • -Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders both verbally and written.


Basic Qualifications


  • -Primary locations: Toronto or Ottawa.

  • -Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.

  • -Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
