Job summary

Coordinate Industries Ltd in Oakville, Ontario seeks an experienced Lathe Machinist to set up and program 2-axis Mazak CNC lathes using Mazatrol. You will read blueprints, select tools, monitor production and ensure tolerances and finishes meet specifications.

The role requires at least high school education, CNC machining training preferred, and 5+ years lathe experience. You will work closely with the lead hand and team to achieve high-quality production within deadlines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Degree or diploma from College or vocational school in CNC machining is strongly desired and most preferred.
• 5+ years of lathe machining experience as a machinist (preferred).
• Able to read and interpret part drawings, specifications and requirements.
• Ability to program CNC 2-Axis lathes in Mazatrol programming language.
• Independent in selecting methods and tooling for machining components.
• Strong skills and aptitude in math.
• Ability to create custom fixtures.
• Highly organized with a keen eye for details.
• Ability to read, speak, write and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Follow quality management system policies and procedures as per AS 9100 International Standard.
• Maintain and fill out in-process inspection sheets for every job.
• Deburr first off and production parts where possible.
• Ability to recognize production problems such as out-of-tolerance machining, poor finishes, and are able to correct them.
• Good inspection skills and blueprint reading skills with ability to use all shop inspection tools.
• Program and set up 2-Axis CNC Lathes with Mazatrol controls.
• Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations, and/or setup operations.
• Create easy to follow setup sheets that include stock material size, work holding/fixtures, tools required, and a breakdown of each operation and how it is to be performed.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate various machine factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
• Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
• Maintains a production efficiency of 75% or higher.
• Maintains a First Pass Acceptance rate of 60% or higher on repeat jobs.
• Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
• Maintain clean and orderly work area.
• Comply with all company policies, rules, guidelines and behavior expectations.
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
• Able to work with minimal supervisor.
• Fill out records, work orders or production related records, as required.
• Require close visual attention while work is in progress to prevent damage to parts or machine.
• Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and products specifications.

Job Description for the Lathe Machinist position -Intermediate Level-Afternoon shift

Lathe Set Up Machinist who can setup/program 2-Axis Mazak CNC lathe machines using Mazatrol programming. Deals directly with immediate Lead Hand, co-workers and team members; engages in exchanges of factual information and provides some explanation in a problem-solving capacity; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, require exchanging factual information and providing some explanation.

1- Training, Experience, Education and Skill Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Degree or diploma from College or vocational school in CNC machining is strongly desired and most preferred.
• 5+ years of lathe machining experience as a machinist (preferred).
• Able to self-organize and follow instructions independently,
• Able to read and interpret part drawings, specifications and requirements.
• Ability to consistently run good parts that meet production standards
• Strong skills and aptitude in math.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, drawing, specifications and determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Ability to program CNC 2-Axis lathes in MAZATROL programming language.
• Independent in selecting methods and tooling for machining components.
• Skilled in the use of measuring tools and equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, thread gauges, and plug gauges, air gauges, and optical comparator).
• Ability to create custom fixtures.

• Manual dexterity and sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
