Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program and current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical laboratory and a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project coordination, conflict resolution and change management skills.
  • Experience working in and supervising in a unionized setting with strong communication and organizational abilities.

Job description

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a provincial Clinical Supervisor who will be supporting both the Edmonton and Calgary Clinical Trials and Research Teams, but the position will be located in the Cross Cancer Institute. We are looking for a collaborative, adaptable leader who builds strong relationships and communicates effectively. Reporting to the Provincial Clinical Trials and Research Manager, the Clinical Supervisor (CS) is responsible for the daily operation, supervision and leadership of people to ensure the safe, efficient and overall operational coordination and delivery of high-quality clinical trial and research laboratory support services focused on current and future clients. In conjunction with the Manager, the clinical supervisor is responsible for engaging, motivating, developing, and guiding employees as aligned with Alberta Precision Laboratories and department strategies. The clinical supervisor will bring sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in team leadership, conflict resolution, and time management is essential. The clinical supervisor will support staff development, performance and engagement while contributing to departmental and organizational goals. The Clinical Supervisor will develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external health care professionals and research clients to improve research laboratory services and facilitate the implementation of changes to structure and processes to accomplish improved outcomes in customer, client/ researcher satisfaction, quality of care and cost recovery. Description:

The Clinical Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations and provides leadership in staff management within their assigned provincial program area. The role includes staff recruitment, onboarding, and training, ensuring compliance with safety and organizational standards, and managing performance through coaching, evaluation, recognition, and corrective action, while supporting investigations, disciplinary processes, and grievance resolution. Using strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the Supervisor addresses operational challenges, implements best practices, and supports quality, safety, and efficiency. In collaboration with Laboratory Management, they contribute to policy development, operational planning, and continuous improvement initiatives, while monitoring operational and financial performance and resource needs through data analysis and reporting. The Supervisor also supports staff development and succession planning and collaborates with stakeholders and other departments to optimize resources, support new programs, and maintain effective service delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Additional Required Qualifications:

Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge and practical experience with EPIC.


Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience as an in-scope supervisor in a mid- to high-volume laboratory. Recent APL Clinical Trial and Research knowledge and coordination experience. Knowledge and understanding of the Health Information Act and how it pertains to research.
